GTC and GTR (incl. PRO) are the actual track focused models of the GT line up; since they are over the price range you’re looking to spend AND you don’t have plans to track your cars then that leaves you with GT and GTS. Obviously, you would want the S especially since you’re spending a significant amount of $$$$. Are you opposed to expanding your search area? For around $89k, there quite a few GTS you could chose from and have transported to your door.

The GT has such an amazing road presence. I’d love to own one myself but as I daily my AMG it’s just not practical enough for the occasional Costco run 😆

But if this is intended for a weekend/fun car, I say go for it!

Agreed. Never was interested in the four door GTs due to their size (same goes for the Panamera). Some models do have rear steering which makes them feel like a smaller car but at the end of the day it’s still a whale of a car. An E63S (wagon preferred) is much more my vibe if I’m looking for more practicality in an AMG.

A good point, you either love them or don't. Never thought of comparing it to a Panny: ouch haha! For me it mainly reminds me of my CLS which I still really love the look of.

Thanks for everybodies thoughts. Can’t respond to all but appreciate them all. I am leaning to keep my C63s as my daily and look for a GTS when prices come down and the situation normalizes again. Just that little voice in my ear wants me to buy that GT 😬 now.

Your sedan looks amazing. I agree, keep your sedan and do more engine work. Unless you plan to do a crazy kit on the gt, the proportions look a bit funny with the front so long. Looks much better with an aggressive kit and GT style wing.

GTS when the timing is right would be my pick.

Thanks 🙏. Yeah, right now I just have a tune. If I keep it long enough maybe a turbo upgrade could be interesting. But to be honest I barely explore the power I already have …and when I do I have a hard time to keep traction as is.

Love that franchise too …but mostly the earlier once. I like all nice cars and JDM is a nice scene. Those Supra’s and 2JZ’s. My older son was pretty into it, he now switched to BMW. My younger son now dabbles at entry levelwith his 86.

resurrecting an old thread - back looking at GT's - cant keep my eye off I guess. Found a nice, low mileage GTS but 2016. Comes with the dynamic plus package and exclusive interior trim and some carbon fiber interior trim. What should I look out for on missing, important options knowing its a 2016 MY.

Nice! I've never owned a C63, but I do own a 2016 GT S. I think the options that are most important are the Dynamic Plus Package (since that can't be added later) and the interior finishing options like the carbon fiber and nicer leather. This will replace some of the plastic bits with nicer materials.

The main thing I've noticed with the older GT S is that their dashboard leather tends to shrink and unglue. That could cost $3k to repair or $7k for a new dashboard! Prod all around at the dash leather to make sure it is firm against the dashboard...if there is any spring in the leather, it's probably shrunk, unglued and lifted!

I wrote 5 or 6 pieces on purchasing and owning my GT S. You can read them here if you like. I really like the car and find it a lot more analog and special that some of the competition. There's great chassis and steering feedback, and it gives a wonderful sense of connection between driver and machine.

The main drawbacks I've had with my GT S is that it is a bit stiff and tight. Also, my car has a few cabin rattles.

Thanks, very much enjoyed your writings! The model I am looking at appears to have the options you mentioned are most important. Interestingly, it comes with white on black interior (white centers if seats and white center control dressing). Little worry about wear on that but it’s the upgraded interior. I test drove a few by now and have yet to find one w/o any obvious issues (one had a boost leak, one was laggy for some reason and then kicked me in the back halfway through the throttle). But they are we just such a classic sports coupe. You compare at times to the 992 and while I love Porsche’s they became an everyday experience where I live. But very few GT’s. Will see - not sure yet how I decide .

Thanks!

Yes, I compared to the 992 because that's the last bonkers fast car I drove before on my favorite road before my GT S purchase. I have to say that the 992 seems faster and more daily friendly, as it has back seats and is slightly softer comfort mode. But the GT S is a lot rarer, visceral and visually compelling!

I've never owned a white interior. My red interior cars held up fine with regular cleaning and leather conditioning.

BTW, Vroom and CarMax sell GT S too, and have great warranties available if you want some insurance.

Good luck!

I was looking hard at a while GTS with the black and white interior. Beautiful car! Call me crazy but the Burmiester High End would be a must in the GT for me. The non leaves a little to be desired when you want to hear something other than the exhaust note.

I find Vroom and Carmax just add too much $ on top of the value of the car. Also, I really like to sit in the car I like to buy before going through the process of buying.

I have not seen a used one with that option, seems rather rare but would ne nice.

I will keep looking and not pull the trigger. Worry about the white, that it is an early model year, and found out its listed by a none MB dealer who can't offer certified.

Carmax warranty is hard to beat, probably about the only reason I'd consider buying a car from them.

Yeah, it's the main reason I'd consider them too. Especially since they offer warranties for their older cars too. For example, if you wanted a 2012 C63 with a warranty, they might be the only way to get it. (Unfortunately, CarMax sales prices for the cars seem to be higher than market.)

Let me know if you'd like a quote and example contract for a Complete Manufacturers Extension policy courtesy of Freedom Warranty, same coverage as the one from the dealer, but without the $$$ the dealer adds on top. Service claims accepted at all Mercedes Benz dealers and licensed independents in the United States. If you're going to be replacing your daily with this AMG GT, I think an extended warranty will pay for itself no problem. Send me an email at tgibson@highline-autos.com or call/text me at (602) 909-9216, even if it is just to have a number in mind while you are shopping around.

Is this the same Freedom Warranty based out of Chattanooga, TN? if so the complaints logged on BBB doesn't inspire much confidence, overarching theme appears to be items not covered under so called "bumper to bumper" coverage.

Correct, have a look at the Freedom Warranty responses, many of the reviews are those who do not know their coverage, or customers trying to pass previous damage. Our Complete Manufacturer extensions are only available on vehicles ten years or younger and under 100k miles.

Car Shield customer complaints in the last 3 years to BBB: 2,114
Endurance customer complaints in the last 3 years to BBB: 872
Freedom Warranty customer complaints in the last 3 years to BBB: 17

May I ask how Freedom compares in terms of number of customers/policies vs CarShield?

I do not know their numbers, but of my personal clients and policies there is a 100% acceptance rate on claims with the majority of policies being Mercedes AMG's, Land Rover's, and Bentley's.
