Just purchased my 2020 C63S - Love it... but the sound..

Hey All!

I finally pulled the trigger after having my eye on one of these for YEARS! I traded in my 2015 Corvette and got a BEAUTIFUL polar white 2020 C63S !

I had to find a slightly pre owned one as you all know with the market right now (Especially in Canada) there wasn't a new one in all of Canada, however I got one of 3 pre owned ones available so I'm happy!!

This car is an absolute beast and the Germans really know what they are doing, it handles better then any other car I've ever owned. The ONLY thing is that it doesn't quite have that cracking the whip exhaust sound that I was hoping for after seeing previous model C63's in my area. From my research it looks like the new ones have a particulate filter that numbs the sound a bit.

SO I have a question for you C63 Owners..... How do I make this thing SNAP, CRACKLE and POP...

I would prefer solutions that will NOT void the warranty on this as I assume they are not to fun to fix lol. I appreciate any advice on this matter and I look forward to seeing you all on the forum!

Well the pops and bangs are done by the ecu so there really isn't a solution without voiding warranty. The opf in fl models does mute the overall exhaust sound alot, you might get a little more pops and bangs if you get aftermarket downpipes but that would also void warranty unless you have an awesome dealer.

Well that sucks. Why did the previous ones pop and crackle so much? I would prefer not to void but I would like ways to make it louder even if it doesn't pop like the oldies.

The opf definitely has an effect on the sound but ultimately those pops bangs and burble are done by the ecu. If you already have the performance exhaust then there's not much point in getting aftermarket exhaust either.
How many miles has your car done? If it's still in run-in period then the car is sort of restricted until it's run-in, it will then liven up more after.
Nice colour btw. I have same colour but sedan

I purchased with 14,000 kms and already put 1200 on. I'm sure that it is well past the break in. I can hear slight pops and bangs but it feels VERY muffled.

I assume all of the "S" models come with performance exhaust with the regulating mufflers? It sounds great in the cab but I would like it LOUDER, I am used to my Vette.

If you want louder then your most likely gonna have to get downpipes that deletes the opf.

Far out that's nice. Well done dude.

Just give her some time. Let the car run in, after a while the pops and bangs will start being louder and louder. The car needs to learn how you drive etc.

Once it's all broken in it'll be a bit louder and the crackles will be a bit more pronunced.

Take it easy and don't start modding yet haha 😅

His car already has over 8500 miles on the clock, how much more time does it need to break in before it gets louder!

OP, congrats! She's a beauty!

Well, there you go. Didn't read that part.

That's the loudest she'll ever be OP 🥱
Time for a secondary cat delete or downpipes.

I wonder if the PFL exhaust system is plug and play for the FL vehicles...

Secondary cat delete will be my first step as it seems it doesn't throw a code. Is there a link or forum post on steps to do this delete??? I will just get my guys to do it in my shop.

Has anyone done downpipes without voiding warranty?

Hmmm how come I heard somewhere that the C63/S in Canada doesn't get OPF. Let me see if I can find that article again, other than that the fl that you have definitely have tuning in the ECU to make the car bang and pop less since all that is generated by the ECU in the first place for MB to meet EU regulations. Since OPF isn't required in Canada, it doesn't make sense for them to include it. (again, let me see if I can find that article again talking about OPF in Canada, I think I saw it on RFD in the MB discussion thread)

As for sound, since you got a pre-owned, it takes time for the car to adapt to your driving style again, the sound might be muffled because the previous owner wasn't flooring the car enough or drive casually while in sport+ or for any reason they drove in comfort more than sport+ but that is just my assumption.

The performance exhaust isn't standard equipment (even on the S) - so there's that.

That being said, if you do have the AMG performance exhaust, look into the Renntech exhaust module - I have it, I like it Other than that, put your foot in it!

Im not sure about the non-S model, but the performance exhaust is standard on the 2019+ FL C63s models.

Good call - I just reviewed my 2021 C63S window sticker and there is no mention whatsoever about the sport exhaust anywhere - however it is listed on my 2021 C43 as an option

does the EVM basically keep the sound at Sport + no matter what mode you're in? Or something else? I've read mixed reviews on it where some say they love the difference and others say it isn't worth the $600.

The Renntech module opens the two rear solenoid valves 100% and keeps them there (no modulation) Another benefit is that it remains that way unless you operate the key fob - so when you turn the car off it stays the way you left it. I haven't had a single issue with mine and would recommend it. Note there are other ways to force the solenoid valves open, however this is a clean easy to use mod that is instantly changed by press of a button, or reversible if you sell the car, etc.

Interesting. I've only had my 205 for a couple weeks now, but one thing that I do miss is the sound of my 204, so I've been looking at different options to increase the sound a bit without hacking up the exhaust to remove the secondary cats.

Here is a picture I just took with the car off - you can see the internal solenoid valve is open on the right side pipe - this valve modulates in stock OEM form, with Renntech installed it just stays open as described earlier.

I believe the Renntech module is just a private label ASR module as they look almost identical except the branding. If you try to buy from ASR direct in Germany, they redirect you back to Renntech USA. I was able to find a workaround, and ordered the ASR direct which saved around $150 off the $600 price Renntech charges.

I bought the RennTech module for my 2015 and it’s great. Took literally 5 minutes to install, is fully reversible, and it’s so easy to make the car crackle and pop in Sport+ mode, and has a bigger, lower tone even in Comfort mode. Brings a smile to my face every time I drive the car.

I had an 18 AMG GTR for a year and changed it for an 18 c63s coupe a few weeks ago. I wanted more sound and got the Renntech evm and it’s definitely worth the money. It makes a massive difference, particularly below 4k revs and even driving around in comfort mode sounds loud now and start ups are MUCH louder. The cracks and bangs are insane. Some friends and family have said that with the Renntech evm the c63 is louder than my GTR was and i tend to agree 😱
