M177 w/ Engine codes: P002177 P001177 Revised* lol
Hi everyone,
I’m replacing a faulty magnet adjuster (bank 2, intake) this weekend. Any tips on removing the intercoolers that might be helpful?
I’ll try and take tons of pictures
Thanks in advance!

Update:
ended up getting Wis myself.
My issue was P002177 Intake camshaft deviation bank 2*
If anyone is looking to do this fix or anything near removing intercooler be prepared to remove your whole front end lol including having to evacuate the A/C refrigerant.
overall replacing the Camshaft magnet/solenoid fixed my issue!
Dealer quoted $5,600 in labor! (efff that! doing it myself)
WIS directly from Mercedes $190 (1 week subscription)
camshaft sprocket $1,100 (returning soon)
control valve $170 (returning soon)
Magnet adjuster $50
M177 timing tool kit $450 (keeping and available for rent!)
borrowing friends garage ($250 as a thank you plus he refilled my A/C)
11 hours of my time priceless lol
So all in all fixed my issue for $490 +/- $30 for drinks and snacks haha
Took 2 days to do it.. and finished a track day this Sunday! 9/18/22 @ Willow Springs international raceway.

That is a hell of a project. Nice job tackling it on your own and getting it done! I am not one to shy away from a project on my cars, but the most involved one I have done is a rear end gear swap on a Mustang GT I used to own years ago. I do believe most things are doable with the right tools and instructions, but this project seems daunting. Does the WIS provide that good of instructions to cover every step from start to finish? Do you have any professional background in wrenching on cars or just an avid enthusiast?
Again, nicely done.
Again, nicely done.

WIS does provide pretty straight forward instruction given I did cut some corners that I deemed easier to do so on removing the right Intercooler instead of both.

AAANNNNDDD WE'RE BACK! Getting P002177 & P001177 meaning both intake banks are deviating from specified values..
I've read extensively on these codes now and ill be removing the whole front end of the car again and diagnosing if its the cam sprockets or if it just needs either control valves or new chain tensioners.
I saw a YouTube video of this guy showing how it was the camshaft actuator is by rotating the crankshaft and when the control valve doesn't move its the camshaft sprocket. there's a pin inside that wears down one side and just causes issues.
again im getting rattle on start up when I don't use the car too often. (I drive this car normally some weekends but not all the time since its my dedicated "track car" / "Weekend car")
Ill be documenting this tear down better than the last with pictures, tools, and videos whenever possible.
Thanks! Hopefully this helps anyone else with this same issue.

Its a bit of work to remove them and like prior mentions the front end has to come off . Before you pull it off order the cooler grilles from Mercedes to protect them from rock impacts if you already haven't ....save yourself a headache later , trust me

Do you have oil in the harness connectors for the cam magnets or cam sensors?
“While you’re in there” have you considered replacing the vapor separators which have been reported on this site to fail (plugged) and cause rear main seal failure from excessive crankcase pressure?

Agree, haven’t seen this for M17x on this site yet.

I haven’t checked if there’s oil on those harnesses. I’ll check it tho forsure.
and I didn’t know this was an issue? Can you send a link to this issue so I can check it out thanks!

Strong recommend to buy the magnets and sensors at the dealer. Electrical parts = buy from dealer always.

so just gonna make this thread my full maintenance blog..
Just changed out the oil/air separators seals. and an fyi both left and right seal are the same yet both have different part numbers. reason im throwing this in is my dealership didn't have the "driver side" seal and only the right at the moment I just bought it and its the same as the driver side.
and earlier in march I replaced the O-ring on the transmission oil cooler. pretty simple. just be sure to have "hydraulic oil stoppers" got them from amazon for cheap.
My nephew helping out Really wish I could cut all that pube looking hair off of his scalp lol terrible trend with the kids these days..
