Faint popping/knocking noise when turning the car

I started noticing faint popping noise coming from front side of my car when turning.
It does not always happen but I was able to replicate the noise occasionally by doing one of following.

1. Do quick left or right turn when car is going 30+ mph
2. Do quick U turn

Very rarely, I also hear the noise even when doing low speed turn.
Noise I hear not loud at all so I have to have music off and windows rolled up to hear the noise.
Sometimes it’s single pop noise while turning. Sometimes, I hear quick two to three pops.
I do not notice this noise when driving the car straight or doing normal lane change.

Car is driving perfectly fine and noise does not always happen, so I am kind of hesitant to take it to dealer at the moment.
Anyone have any similar experience?

****It could be several things, but I would focus on sway bar bushings, control arm bushings, etc.. It is quite easy to diagnose with the car jacked up or on a rack, at least to rule out a cracked or broken bushing or end link issue, etc.. The mechanic would look for excessive play or damage at the bushings on the wishbone arms or other steering components down there. Pic below of the suspension system. Also loose strut or broken bolt allowing a bit of movement during a turn, etc.. Relatively easy to spot or at least narrow down with the car up on a rack.

exact same issue. more pronounced when backing up and turning at full wheel lock or if backing up and turning through a bump

the actual bang sounds more like a thud, and can best be described as a very fast metallic coiling motion and it usually hits in a pattern like thu-thud. as if my wheel skidded but it was made of metal

I've had something similar. I was able to consistently reproduce it going full lock while the car was stationary. I don't remember exactly what the issue was, but I believe it was the lower control arms. I wanna say it was a known issue, but I'd have to dig up the invoice for exactly what they did. It was a while back, but was easy to demonstrate to the service advisor and getting it fixed. I've had loose bolts in previous cars that caused a similar noise, so I would have it checked out.

I took out wheel spacers from front wheels today just to see if anything was wrong with them. But I was still hearing knocking noise when doing high speed turning even without the spacers.
So it looks like it is some suspension component that is making this noise. I will take the car in for service early next year to have them check it out.

I've developed the same noise recently. When turning to the left and quickly turning right again. Also makes that noise during hard cornering. Car pull to the right, and even with an alignment, and new tires, it is not as stable at high speed as before. Going 140mph before I feel so much stability and control with all the mods I had done. Now it's sketchy past 110mph

Knocking noise in the video is pretty similar to the noise I hear in my car. I will have to see if I can make noise come from standstill too by turning wheels quickly.

From what I heard there’s a TSB on this noise at the dealer. It’s for an issue with the electronic rack & pinion assembly. If you’re under warranty mention this and they might do something about it.

I have same noise but only hear it from standstill if I turn the steering wheel to the left then quickly to the right. My car does drive fine and I hoon around alot.
Have taken to dealer before and they said it's "normal", showed me a PFL that had the same noise.
There is an old thread on this that said it was the steering knuckle/steering rack that made the noise.

I cannot make the noise to appear when the car is standstill, so my issue may be different.
Either way, I will take the car in to see what they say. I have another issue with internal microphone too (people say I sound really distant when I make call using bluetooth), so hopefully they can fix both in a same visit.

All of my c63’s have done that when it’s cold temperature and partially worn front tyres, new tyres and it goes away.

My SA just texted me that they replaced thrust piece on steering rack to fix the noise issue.
I do not have the car back yet, but I will upload repair paper once I get it tomorrow.

Just picked up the car from dealer. Below is service invoice stating what the tech did and this site has full explanation of this TSB.
https://www.tsbsearch.com/Mercedes-B...46-35-P-068182

There is new thrust piece on rack-and-pinion steering made of new stronger material (aluminum vs. plastic).
When I first drove the car right after picking up the car, I immediately noticed that there is now more resistance to the steering movement making it feel a bit more direct and heavy.
I welcome this change as I always felt like C63s steering movement was on the light side.

I have to dig up my invoice when I get back from my trip and see if it was the same thing they did on mine. Pretty sure it was from reading the TSB. Mine was doing it while stationary as I mentioned. I think I mixed up the lower control arm issue with my previous Audi which had a creaking noise that came from a poor design of the control arms. As for changes to the steering, I can't say specifically how much was related to this as I changed to the PS4S around the same time and they noticeably improved the steering response. However, there's a lengthy thread with several owners having issues with the steering where it seems to get stuck on slight left or right turns and I'm wondering now if that's another symptom of the plastic thrust piece. Seems all these cost cutting efforts of replacing metal pieces with plastic pieces is not surprisingly backfiring eventually.

Hi,

Recently I am hearing groaning noise when steering on park or low speeds. I read my threads something related to struts or bushing. Any idea to check?

Note: Ambient temperature between 13 to 18C or 60 to 68F

a lot of answers here, but one of the most common i see in colder climates is the stock tires pop when turning when weather is colder. buy all season pilot sports and it will go away

I already have Michelin All season sport 4 tires. I guess it is not related cause it exists after car warm up and return from 5 miles trip.
