Hey guys,
just purchased a C63S Coupe late Septemeber 2017 model located in Australia
My First MB so kinda still learning all about it
Ive read quite a few threads now and looks like there was no Carplay to the C series prior to 2018
Would really like to be able to get my maps from my phone onto the screen, and i have to admit added touch screen would be so much easier
I realise there are many threads discussing this already but alot of them are old, and techology changes and gets better so im wondering if guys can recommend any particular apple carplay options and bonus if i can also change the screen

I do have command system, and looks like is not possible to OEM retrofit?
Also, i am after a quality product, and would love everything to be as good as oem

Many thanks for your help guys.
And for a laugh... im still working out all the buttons in the car lol

I tried an Android touchscreen unit and there were too many bugs with restarts, lock ups and similar. I went through many iterations of flashing new ROMs, firmware and similar.

In the end I settled for a Carplay addon box and connect my phone wirelessly, it's much nicer to use although you don't get touchscreen (or the ability to watch videos on the move, personally I'm not fussed for that) - I just wanted Spotify and Waze/Apple Maps.

Siri works great on the Carplay box - it's much cleaner and more OEM looking given you don't have to install a new screen.

Thanks for your reply buddy,
With yours, is the command system all the same, all cameras, buttons etc still working?
Could you give me the name of the one you have?
TBH that might be enough for me, i have no interest in watching movies, i just want waze on my screen
The screen being touchscreen is just handy.... im struggling using the wheel lol

Also which was the touch screen one u had problems with?

I have a Road Top CarPlay box - there’s a few threads on it on the non-AMG W205 forum here.

I had a top-spec Road Top Android headunit - it was OK but really it was never quite as good as the CarPlay add on.

Most of the head units and boxes are all built in the same factory - there’s a load of reviews of each out there showing the good/bad.

The camera works as it should - the downside to the CarPlay box is changing the AC temp to see what setting it’s on you need to hold the back button on the command knob to come back to the NTG screen.

The headunit Will intercept the canbus and show you a display down the bottom of the Android screen with the temperature as you change jt.

I've tried several black boxes from vendors. Constant losses of communication. Frozen screens. All of it. Unfortunately, I'm having to hard wire from inside the center console to my Apple phone. From here I can getting what I want: WAZE, my tunes on my phone, or on Thursdays, we have a great Jazz station from TSU. Or I can call somebody and bother them for a while about nothing in particular. PS- I miss the touch screen functionality.

A former life.....

I have a 2021 and I have Apple Car Play, but not wireless Apple Car Play. I had to buy an adapter to get that to work. No touch screen in my 2021.

A $50-70 dongle for wireless android or Carplay can solve this. I have one for Carplay and it's been fabulous, works without a hiccup.

Nope. My primary ride is my Macan Turbo. It's sooo much easier with touch capability than dialing for dollars on the Benz. I was told the reason Mercedes did away with touch screens was to ensure the driver never had to take their hands off the wheel. Everything (almost I guess) could be done using the steering wheel controls. Who knows?

I installed roadtop android 13 12 inch screen and it works like a beast. It’s amazing and does more than my 2024 g or 2021 GT touch screens can do. I do have stock trading app on it to keep checking my day trading accounts and play YouTube video songs on it.

carplay also works flawless. All of my command is still there and don’t loose anything. Their support on WhatsApp has been fantastic to help me fix software issues (not many). I recommend them
