Oil change question

I am about to order a Genuine MB oil filter from FCP euro. Should I also order the Oil Drain plug part# 0029902017?
I asked because an Indy did an oil change for me last year and all I supplied was the Oil filter and not the Oil drain plug(plastic) which I believe should be changed with every oil change?
I been getting the oil change about every 6 months (5,000 miles) which is between the MB yearly Service.
My last MB yearly Service in April 2024 the SA stated that the Drain plug was crushed.
. So if the plug is mandatory then the Indy should have advised me of this and not processed with the oil change?
.

I would always change the oil drain plug. Sure, it can be reused, but getting a newer one is the better option. The seal of the plug will get old and porous otherwise. Maybe the Indy had new drain plugs at hand already? I'd ask him to be sure.

My engine actually just started leaking oil from the plastic plug after a recent oil change.

Don’t know why they are plastic in the first place.

I just had my oil changed today at Indy shop. I do it every 6 months. Photo below is the plastic part to remove that plastic plug. Something I forget to get last time.
Also I had the tech inspect my car as I am covered under MB MB Extended Warranty.
He discovered a small bubble on passenger front sidewall and rear shocks were leaking.
Thus I ordered front tire from Tire Rack with delivery tomorrow. As for rear shocks the 1st appointment with or without a Loaner for the MB Dealership is November 12. Must be really backed up.

Is it possible to remove it with anything but plastic? or shall you install a fumoto valve?

I'm not sure how the Indy did it last time without the drain plug tool.

But I ordered it this time from FCP Euro. See photo below. The Indy told me to hold onto the drain plug tool for next time so I did.

Sorry about that, I realized I made a mistake in my post... I meant "Is it possible to replace it with anything other than plastic, the drain plug... like aluminum or a copper drain plug" not the word remove.

As for the drain plug tool, does it look like a flat head screw driver will remove it?

Reason I mentioned fumoto valve is so you don't have to ever replace the drain plug again you just open a valve when you need to do the oil change.

I would like to know as well.

It was an indy shop that did my oil change but I trust them. Having plastic plugs for something as hot as engine oil blows my mind.

Mercedes wanted $350 just to inspect the problem or $750 to do my oil change/filters/top off fluids.

They dont do the basic oil changes for $150-180 anymore. Go figure!

Not sure if a flat head will remove it. I sent few more photos at different angles and a photo of Production Information on it use.
This old school chain smoking MB mechanic told me to hold on to it. Also

his young eagle eyed tech was able to see that small bubble in my sidewall. Grateful for that.

I see, does look like it is thicker than a typical flat head but honestly even if it works it wouldn't be wise given metal on plastic is not a good idea. the plastic tool on the plastic drain plug makes more sense. That said, really should see if you can replace it with something other than plastic.

Just fixed my oil leak, 100% the drain plug unless the other mechanic overtightened it or didn't tighten it enough.

I HOPE!

Do not buy your drain plugs off Amazon, just for peace of mind. Get em from MB. $28. Then cost me another $40 for a local mechanic to pop out the Amazon one.

Ive done this 4 times now and have used a flathead each time. Some Mercedes techs even do this.
