Spongy suspension on highway

Today i was first time on german autobahn (without speed limit).

At ~ 150 km/h with kick down the car was realy spongy a little over 215 km/h i had to stop/canel
the acceleration.

i used frirst comfort mode , then comfort mode
with suspension ++ , after this sport + … no difference.

In the moment i use winter tyres 19/20 OEM.

Is this normal ?

My previous RS3 was like a train on rails till 250km/h.

I am confused now … something wrong with
the chassis or is this wheel spin ?

@C63s_Jack My car get's noticeably stiffer in Sport+ or Race mode, versus comfort. I feel like you'd get some kind of error message if your suspension wasn't working, however, it might be worth checking for any stored "soft codes" though.
Also what tires and tire pressure are you running? Michelin PS4S should be nice and stiff. But Pirelli P-Zeros will feel like pillows on ice (soft and no traction). If you are below 36psi (2.5 bar / 250kPa) then it will feel a little spongy at high speed. For daily driving around town, a lot of people here run 34-ish psi (2.34 bar / 234kPa) on the front and 32-ish psi (2.2 bar / 220kPa) on he rear, but for high speeds you should bump up the tire pressure. Go look inside your gas (petrol) filler door for the proper pressures.

It could also be your engine mounts... common failure.... looks like you already checked out this thread:

In the moment winter tyres 255/285.
Pressure 2.7 & 2.8 Bar.
Hankook Winter i*cept evo3 W330 the only possible in19/20 “.

Good to know more stiffer in race/sport+.
Will look for Xentry for me.

Update

Was today @ MB.
Xentry all ok
Inspektion hardware ( suspension etc) all ok

I changed wheels winter to oem MO summer after this testdrive full pull on highway - all perfect ok

The culprits were the new bought winter tires.
(No MO & no Michelin but also no cheap sh*t)
I wouldn't have thought it possible.

I missed this thread, but yes I would have told you it's the tires. Dedicated winter tires are very soft as they are designed to not harden at cold temperatures. If you get heat in them, the get even softer and feel like you are driving on molten lava. To tie it back to the other thread where you asked me about UTQG rating, winter tires generally don't even have a UTQG rating, because of their focus on snow traction above anything else. They are not designed for high speed driving. Having said that, even the Hankook summer performance tires are soft. I still remember when Audi decided to fit Hankook tires on the B9 RS5. It made a disappointing car even worse. Once those tires got a bit of heat in them, they became very mushy.

The hankook front wintertire has V the rear W if i remember correctly. 19/20” ! not 19/19.
That was the only couple
to buy in all that biggest online tire shops with same type/tire tread.

Thats means V 149 and W 168 mph so i was thinking no problem at all. I know that says only it doesn't shred the tires untill this mph it says nothing about performance. but i thought if hankook guy made such tire till 168 mph there is no problem at all.
I didnt run full v-max 180 mph only 80 mph kick down full pull and at about 130 mph i became increasingly uncomfortable because of the vague driving feel then i stopped accerelation test.

On my RS3 i had Pirelli with Audi RO wintertires only … never that problem.
I know thats not adequate to do this but I was lazy

I've never experienced a situation like this with winter tires before,
and I've owned quite a few high-performance cars.

No bad words to hankook guys - for normal use the tires are ok.

Speed rating always has to be looked at together with tire pressure. The issue is what's called tire deflection. It's the compression and deformation of the tire when it makes contact with the pavement. The more the tire compresses and deforms, the more heat this generates and so you may overheat the tire, even if the speed rating technically supports the speed. So that's why you need to increase the tire pressure for speeds above 250 km/h and with soft tires. Below is the pressure chart and while AMG only give pressures for M+S tires, which are not full snow tires, you can see that they need higher pressure. For higher speed Autobahn driving you essentially need to inflate them to 2.8 bar in the front and 3 bar in the rear. Looks like you had them underinflated for starters. If the tires are particularly soft as Hankooks are, you may have needed to inflate them even higher to compensate for the softer compound. But as said, winter tires aren't really made for higher speed driving, so save it for the warmer months on summer performance tires.

Interesting. You have different numbers and more detail for M+S tires.

If you see no 19/20 wintertire but its in my country legal to use this size
(like summer tire). MB says use 19/19 for winter but I say no - car should allways look pretty .
The sticker has a partnumber maybe its correlated
with Code 250 ( drivers package ~ 180 mph) too ?
