While checking my oil level I noticed this......


I ordered a new cap, but is that for sure the solution? It's the white crust you can see around the coolant tank/reservoir.

Doubble check cooling fluid … show us a picture.
Correct MB specification ? correct mix of fluid and ( destilated) water ?

check cap … check if there is a new partnumber.

check cooling system if it works correct.

tell us about your car - OEM or abused ?

yes. Clean it extremely well after replacing the cap and monitor from there. If it continues, time to chase where the excess pressure is coming from.

Stock besides a JB4.
Correct fluid, tank filled to the black half starts. Cooling system works fine.

Okay what means JB4 ?
How have checked that fluid is oem MB spezification ?

It looks like cooling fluid came to the cap outside.
thats not normal in my mind.
I would guess cap has a problem or engine gone to hot.

you can check cooling fluid by a gauge.
( how much F or C it has)

I had the same situation fews years ago. Noticed white crust and engine was hot so I dod not attempt to open the cap. Engine temperature was normal .Called dealership and advised bring it in the morning.

Next morning before proceeding to dealership, opened hood and realized the cap was not fully secured. I turned cap until it clicked. I had a Service done a few months earlier and thinking a careless tech may not have fully secured the cap.

Drove to dealership anyway and tech was waiting and performed a pressure check, cleaned up the white crust and said it was just a loose cap. Didn't think I needed a new cap but said keep an eye on it.



That was it and no futher issues. However sometime later, I purchased a new cap since car was 4-5 years old. And no more issues..

JB4 = a module that acts something like a tune for the car. Plugs into your existing wiring harness, and to my understanding, hijacks some of your ECU signals and replaces them with others. See link below.

okay i know what you mean.
i know them as tuning box.
thats realy old style because they are not so fine definated as tuning with SW tuning to the engine modul itself. ( sw/computer/engine modul/new setup for all parameter)

The advantage is that you can run one without updating the ECU. If you're trying to avoid tipping MB off to the fact you've modified the car, the JB4 is a viable choice.
