Moving this thread along a little bit, out of curiosity, what are your smoking backgrounds and when did you all discover the pass time?
Cigars a wonderful little enjoyment that can be added to your life I never was a cigarette smoker or anything else you may be thinking of Even in College I never tried a cigarette, pot or anything like that. I tried my first cigar at the age of 18 when at a friends house for his 18th birthday. His father is a huge cigar smoker so in his garage next to his Z06 and Viper sits a Cigar humidor. My first cigar he gave me was a Philly Blunt Strawberry Cigar. It was a cheap $3.00 stick but to be honest it pretty good. Then after I had a Acid Blondie that was awful! From there I did my research on cigars and went to events to educate myself before buying my first humidor. Now many years later I own 3 humidors all near full with everything from those low end Philly's to the high end Opus X and Padron's I smoke cigars on weekends only during the year except for summer time when I am golfing, boating, working in the garage or family get togeather. I love puffing a good cigar. My "regular" smokes are Padron 2000's/3000's/5000's Maduro San Lotano Maduro, Romero's, Arturo Fuente and Don Diego's.

Very nice, and no I wasn't thinking of anything else hahaha I myself have never touched marijuana, which being in high school takes a lot of skill lol. I don't think down on anyone who smokes anything, in fact some of the most intelligent and self-aware people I know could be considered borderline pot-heads.

I did read about the Opus X - definitely a pinnacle of luxury cigars. Honestly, light cigar smoking like that I personally doubt has any significant negative impact on your health. It's an art in itself from what I know about it, just like collecting fine wines which my father is really into. An entirely different world of both budget and expensive enjoyment .

Like I said with cigars they are a great enjoyment I keep it to weekends mostly as I said before that way it does not become boring. If you have steak and cigars everyday it wont taste as good. Life the high life on weekends and it only keeps getting better It would be like if I drove the Porsche everyday. After a while the smile does go away and its not as fun. In life we need anticipation. Your father and I would get along as I love red wine of all kinds as long as it is not sweet. This weekend I will be in NYC so we will be doing some cigar puffing for sure. I just packed my cigar case holder actually.
1 Romeo 1875
1 Liga Privada #9
1 Opus X Lost City
1 Don Diego
1 Padron 3000 Maduro
3 San Lotano Maduro's
1 Cohiba Black

Of course there not all for me

Do you buy your cigars at a specialty shop or online or a combination of everything? I have a feeling if not transported properly they can be an issue so I'm not sure if shipping is feasible. But then again I have close to zero knowledge on cigars.

Occasionally you'll see the term "box worthy" pop up in this thread... Those are the ones that I buy in bulk, from places such as Cigar International, etc.

If I've never had a specific brand/model before, I'll buy them at the cigar shop. Paying retail sucks, but it's cheaper than buying a box of cigars you'll end up hating. I will smoke the same cigar two different times before springing for a box. I live comfortably, but I'm also quite frugal.

That being said, my faves are as follows:
  • Oliva (G, V, and V Melanio)
  • Flor De Las Antillas
  • Tabak Especial
  • Alec Bradley (Tempus, Prensado in that order)
  • Padron Series 5000 Maduro
  • Gurkha Cellar Reserve
  • Cusano 18
That last one is rather inexpensive, but very smooth. Get the one with the Maroon label... the newer one is a Cameroon (blue label)... not so hot.

It varies where I buy mine. I live in 2 locations and travel often as well so I am huge fan of cigar shops. I have a gentlmen who rents a store front from me who is a tobacco shop and does carry some cigars. I actually bought a Java Maduro this morning from him. I also deal with two other shops in the Albany area. When I am in Florida I deal with a cigar shop in downtown that gets me great deals and I always take some home due to it being cheaper in Florida to buy cigars. When I want a specialty item like a Liga Privada #9 or Opus X Lost City I go online to get them because of demand. When it comes to Cigars I tend to buy from all over. I do overnight shipping online so therefore they are fresh!

I was on-again/off-again with 'em for a while, but after I turned 25 I started smoking 1-2 a week. Been doing that ever since.

I have a few extras I need to add to this thread, I simply have been lazy with the updates.
Bro...you nailed my first smoking experience. Plus with me I was smoking it too fast for my constitution.

I started really smoking cigars about 12yrs ago after a wedding I attended...before then is was once in awhile affair. It was a mild non-cuban Montecristo and it was with a bunch of old college mates. Whether it was the company or the cigar, it was a fantastic experience. I started smoking on the golf course and at dinner with buddies...never stopped.

One thing though is that smoking cigar and smoking a cigarette is night and day. The tobacco in a cigar is tobacco...I can't say the same thing about cigarettes. I can't stand the smell of cigarettes but love the smell of a good cigar.

It relaxes me, too. It helps me on the golf course because it helps me slow my roll...which can only help my swing.

Cigars are great thing to do in a company of your buddies...some of the best times I've had were around a poker table...smoking cigars and drinking scotch. The level of BS increases exponentially but that is part of the fun.

The best advice I can give to you is to start out slow and mild. Try various cigars and pick the one that YOUR palate (everyone is different) likes...once you get used to milder cigars and your tolerance increases...move to the next level.

Read up on cigar etiquette and it's history...how its made and the brands that have endured. Ask questions...these guys are great and laid back...a lot of other forums dedicated to cigars are really tough on newbies and I think their OG crew sometimes makes it their God given right to bust your ***** every chance they get. Not all but I've seen it too many times...

Enjoy and welcome.

PS You don't need to spend an arm and a leg (granted I'm an arm and leg amputee) to find a great cigar.

When it rains it pours...

For those of you that are interested, the infamous "Cafe Con Leche" is available on CI in five-packs. A great way to try these things without committing to a full box. Forever grateful for Jon's endorsement of these... flavor is amazing.

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/c...ecial-limited/

Also, until the 21st they are offering five CCL's plus five CAO Moontrance Robustos for the same price as just the five CCL's by themselves.

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/s...rance/#p-95999

The Moontrance isn't one I'd smoke on a regular basis, but it's always good to have a few tasty cheap ones on hand for the friends with less discerning palettes when they want to smoke with you

Smile Wild weekend!!!

Ended up having a wild St.Patricks day weekend! More fun then I could handle. I ended up smoking a Java Mint inside the club friday night. Saturday I did a San Lotano with a friend of mine who also loves them! Also did a Liga Privada #9 on Sunday while playing some Poker at the Empire Casino in NYC. A wild weekend of cigars, drinking, new friends and some pretty ladies too

I also think I am taking after Jon...I ended up putting in a humidor in my office at my warehouse so I have a cigar humidor at work now

Soooo jealous... I work for a major corporation, so that's only a dream for me. I've told everyone I'd be MUCH more chill at work with a stogie in one hand...

The "Reserve" seems to be a bit more mellow... at least to me. I've smoked three different 1875's at this point -- one from Cuba (amazing), a normal red label 1875 (meh), and the 1875 Reserve (good & smooth). The Reserve was a cigar I smoked to the knuckles. Box worthy? IDK... but a darn good smoke for $6. I consider it a dead-ringer for the Cusano 18 on the flavor/draw. My local shop has a box of the 1875 Reserve in a churchill size for $8... I'll be picking a couple of them up now.

What's up fellas?! Glad to see everyone still enjoying their smokes. I spent last weekend in Houston and visited a great smoke shop near Rice University called the Briar Patch (free plug for them). Great selection of smokes. Boxes of Padron Annivesaries, Ashton VSG's, Davidoffs, and even Opus X's....Kinda reminded me of AMG's humidor!

I picked up a Warlock and La Flor Dominca Airbender since I've never tried either. The Warlock gets my vote for best cigar with the worst name. Absolutely a wonderful smoke and certainly well worth the measly $7. I'm bummed I dropped it into a puddle rushing into the local gun show. Would definitely buy another just to reaffirm my 30-minute taste test.

And speaking of Cigars International, I took a chance and fell for the marketing campaign of those Genesis by Ramon Bueso cigars. Again, another great smoke and definitely, "box worthy".

I have pics to post but no data transfer cable yet so you guys will have to wait. Until then, keep puffin'....

I've been eyeballing those... Do they compare to/remind you of a "major" brand? Or do they have their own unique flavor?

I really like them. Had I known how good they are, I would have bought them at the introductory price, which was much cheaper then today! It may be marketing, but I like the fact that it seems to have a "small batch" or "boutique" uniqueness about it. Medium to medium-full in body, but with gobs of flavor.

I'll admit, I like the idea of the limited-availability, which is what drew me to the Warlock brand as well. That and the Warlock was highly-rated on some cigar website I frequent. Cheap, too (at least by the box).

I highly recommend both brands.
