I bought mine in Greenwich CT and drove it to Boston, that was about 300 miles. Of course I didn't get to drive it, because the only way I could get a "friend" to come with me so I could get the car, was on the condition they get to drive the car back.
So my best friend drove, kicked up the stereo, waved to women, got thumbs ups from passers by, and I followed in my rental Toyota Corrolla. It took him 5 minutes to go through the toll booth because the toll guy wanted to get details on the car and didn't know cars came with V12's. I am behind him honking the **** of the horn, and he nor the toll operator could care less. Overall it was a great trip.

Last weekend drove to upstate NY. 240 miles each way. Probably will never do it again. Too many rock chips and road debris.
On the plus side, it was a great drive. The CL is an awsome highway cruiser.

You sound like me when I used my '92 Lexus SC300 as my daily hauler. I remember taking a road trip from Maryland to Key West, FL and back. That same year, took the same car and drove from Maryland to Niagra Falls and back in addition to 2 trips back & forth to Charleston, SC (Sister was going to school there at the time & actually proposed to my wife at the Charleston,SC water front).

2003 CL500
from nashville to atlanta, it was smoooooth sailing at night
there were no road hazards in particular but the drowsiness was pretty dangerous. bad timing = flying CL into the river 
also when i made pit stops, no matter how far i park, someone always parked right next to me. which really pissed me off but i suppose i cannot get the bimmer mentality out of my system.

My wife & I call that the "beach syndrome!"
You know like when you go to the beach and you've found that one spot that seems just right & secluded away from everyone else. The moment you turn your back, you see a bunch of people pilling up around you.
I guess in one way it's flatering, but damn......can I get some space!

Both you and Caligula 600 should invest in those clear bra/3M type products for those susceptible areas on the CL. I have it installed on the front fascia and widebody flares of my 911 turbo in order to easily avoid rock chip damage It's one of the best maintenance investments that I have ever made for that car. I plan to did it to my CL as wll, once I get it in house.

The clear bra would be a wise investment. I have read on this forum and on other sites that the Venture brand film is more durable and less visible (clearer) on black than the 3M films. Can anyone verify this?

I use my CL500 for long road trips. From out of Tucson I've hit Nashville, Chicago. LA twice. Cheyenne WY and Salt Lake. In less than a year. It drives so well I made it from St. Joe, MO to Tucson in one shot. Beats standing in line at the airports.

MB S550 now; S63, CL600, S430 previously
Indianapolis to Virginia and back, annually. Over 600 miles each way. The car is great on the highway so I use it whenever the drive is two hours or more one way.
