Looking into getting a 00 Cl500

Hi, I just needed some advice on the cl500. Im looking at a 2000 model with 60k miles on it and I wanted to know about maintainence costs that would incur after 60k miles from your experience. Approximately how much, and which parts usually are needed to be replaced?

This is my first MB that Im considering purchasing so any kind of input would help.

Thanks
FC

I have that exact car. With that exact mileage.
What are you going to pay for it ?

All I can tell you is.
Here are the big 6 issues.

1. ABC Pump. If it has not been replaced. Which I am sure it has.
Thats a 90 % its going to go.
2. Electrical issues. This car has a dash recall. Check the Vin #
3. Power drain. Let this car sit for a week. And it will need a jump.
4. Bubbles in the glass. Look at the right and left windows at the seal.
5. Tires and pads every 20K miles. It is a German Tank.
6. Mine likes to eat Oxygen Sensors. It has 3 I think, and all have been replaced.

I have extended warranty and the pump alone paid for it.

Other than that it is a beautiful car. Just normal A & B service
every 10K miles. $ 300.00

Good luck on your first Benz.
Get the repair record from your dealer. Its in the MBZ data base.
That will tell you if the ABC pump has been replaced.

This is a CL, it's going to have so many unpredictable issues that you should really just expect to be able to dish out the money for.

Im getting it for $26k. What is a good brand name for extended warranty. How much do the items such as the Oxygen sensors and abc pump cost? I know that this car has the air ride suspension so my question is does this have a tendency of going out also? What is the average lifespan for this vehicle? Any kind of input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cl500

$ 26k
Thats about right. Bluebook is like $ 30K

Oxygen sensors are $ 250.00 with Labor.
The pump is the big ticket. Like about $ 2900.00
includes labor. I am sure yours has already been replaced.
The Air Ride you are talking about is called ABC.
Active Body Control. The pump is the heart of that hydraulic
system. They were common to fail in this car in the first 30K
Miles. Extended will cost you about $ 2500.00 to $ 3200.00 for
another 4 years and up to 100K miles. Shop around and I would suggest
going to a Benz dealer and getting the vehilce service history and checking with them on which extended warranty company`s they approve of.
Note: Beware:
Some Dealers will not work with some extended warranty company`s.

Good tires like Michelins are $ 900.00 all the way around.
And you will suck them up every 20K miles no matter how you drive.
Also brakes up front every 20K miles no matter what. $ 300.00 +

If you are on a tight budget this is not the car for you.
Trying this car without extended warranty could be a hazard to your wallet.
But if spending some good money to keep this car regularly maintained
is not a big issue. It will last you for years to come.
I am planning on keeping mine for another 3-4 years. to about 100K Miles
Thats when my warranty goes goodbye.
Its my daily driver. And so far I am very satisfied.

true, but any other cars out there same can be said. My BMW is newer and has had many more visits to the dealer than my CL, luckily all covered by warranty. Honestly, CL is still just another car with so much electronics in it so more of those things will go out before the mechanical things.

Ok heres the thing, the CL is not a good car in terms of reliability, period. You absolutely need to research warranty companies and purchase one, otherwise don't buy the car.

The issues mentioned above were just the tip of the iceberg for me, although mine is a 600. Has about 38K miles. I have since bought a warranty but even the wear and tear items on this car is crazy. Sorry to sound so negative but its the cold truth.

Bottom line, there is a reason why these 100K cars are selling for mid 20's. You're getting A LOT of car for the price, so the high maintenance you'll just have to deal with. Buy the CL if you absolutely love the car, and buy a warranty for as long as you own the car.

I'm looking at the CL600 Model. It has 45k miles on it and the price is 49K. Beautiful ride and tons of power. Easy Care warranty is available and I'll probably purchase the Total Care Package. All options except for distronic.
