Talking I placed an order for my dream car today!!!

I placed an order for a black on black CL 55 AMG. It will arrive just in time for summer. My CLK 430 was somewhat a disappointement in terms of build quality, although I've had many memorable experiences with it. I am still debating between silver (sort of getting tired of it) and black for the CL. It'll be an awesome summer.

I ordered keyless go, parktronic, Motoral V60 phone, and the electronic trunk closer. I felt that the distronic option was an overpriced and fairly useless gadget. What do you feel is a better color combo: black on black with chestnut wood, or silver on black with burl walnut trim?

That's an entirely personal choice. I will tell you however, that if you do choose to go black, the chestnut wood is a very nice option that will set the color combo off !

I don't have distronic either, and am glad for the reason that if you have distronic, the front grill star is solid. Up close it looks strange and out of place.

Adam, is Distronic the only reason that the grille star would change to solid?

I was just wondering - thanks!

Yeap, it is. Behind the grill, there is a "radar" detector stuff. It needs to send signal out (actually it is not "solid", it is a "glass-like" material, so the radar signal can penetrate it).

Go for Black. I have had Black MB's for 11 years and will reorder new CLK 2003 in Black.

Hey, thanks mb_newbie!

So why is it the radar can't just work with the standard star there?

The star is where the Distronic radar unit mounts, the emblem is incorporated into the unit. And if you've ever driven a car with Distronic in moderate traffic, I think you'll agree that the way the car controls its own speed is more than enough compensation for something as petty as the way the hood star looks.

So if the star got changed back to the original, would the Distronic fail to work...or might something funky happen?

It wouldn't work at all, not even the basic cruise control functions.

Hi, mbtech208

Good to see you around and answering questions (looks like that you disappear for a while).

This one is an off topic question; according to my local dealer, they are going to Rancho Cucamonga for 2003 SL sales training. Did you see whole bunch of 2003 SL rolling in?

Thanks,
