Car making NASTY sound

OK I don't know if this is normal for a V8, or its just in my head, But my car sounds strange!

Upon start up, It sounds just horrible, and once its been warmed up for about 10 minutes, it sounds fine.

but if I drive off to my Buddy's house(5 miles), and get out of the car, I can hear a weird grumbling and it just does not sound healthy. Maybe I need to get a Video clip of it.

Any one else have a noisy V8?

G,
My belts chirp a little for about 5 minutes until she warms up...but I think thats because the car will sit for weeks between drives. Can you describe the sound better? I don't think a video or sound clip will help...have you noticed how the exhaust sounds different in person compared to a recording...at least mine does. Oh BTW, Lorinser fenders? Awesome dude. I can't wit to see how they look!!!

oh yea, the sound is just rough, it sounds like a Chevy V8 instead of what I would assume a Mercedes would sound like.

The reason I ask is because I owned a Lexus Sc(98) and That V8 was so quiet I couldn't even tell if it was ON!

Mine sounds a bit loud when cold. "Pully Noises". But after just a few minutes purrs like normal. I notice it more when I dont drive it daily. My big concern would be to watch for any vibrations you feel in the steering wheel. Thats the dreaded ABC pump when it starts to head south.....

OK While I stopped to pick up some pizzas for work, I noticed it still sounded like crap. So I made a video but didnt realize I had it in LOW Quality(only way to send stuff in MMS form) so here it is, but the sound is low so you MIGHT have to turn it up a bit

.. or it's out of oil. Handi-cam audio (or worse yet a phone) makes it pretty tough to tell. He's right.. sounds more like an oil-burner.

It could be piston slap but this usually goes away in just a couple of minutes, not 10. I had this in a Vette I owned and it did sound like a diesel. Is this something that just started or has it been there since you've owned the car?

But has it always been there since you've owned the car or is it something new?

Two or three months? ALi why are you still driving the car like that? It is definitely not good. You could be slowly destruying the engine. Get it looked at. Are you noticing any loss of power? Does it sputter or cough when you turn it off? Are you running low octane or *****ty gas? Maybe moisture in the gas tank?

2 Different Tech's at the dealership came out and listened to it, and they both said "it sounds like a v8, whats the problem?"

I'm NOT noticing loss of power, but I am noticing my ideling has changed, like while crusing and a downshift happens, it needs a good kick to get back up to the right gear.

Not sputtering or coughing.

Most expensive gas I could find.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH man i dont know whats going

Dude, that just doesn't make sense. I have the exact same car as you and probably the same mods and my car DOES NOT sound like that. Did the previous owner change the headers? Maybe that could be it. If it has been like this since you bought it maybe you don't really know how it is supposed to sound. Go to the MB dealer and find a CL, start it, drive it, then decide for yourself. Do you have a record of your engine mounts being changed?

While I'm no MB engine tech, I've had a car with piston slap with a sound similar to what your's is doing. If you are under warranty, I would definitely get something in writing from MB that they consider the noise normal. BTW, piston slap is not harmful to engines and does not affect longevity, so I've been told by many mechanics.

the previouse owner had aloooooot of work done to the car under warranty, and it could be possible something was done to the engine, but I would not know. He did install an exhaust and other little cosmetics, so its possible.

But the thing is, when my car warms up and gets driven around a bit, it sounds liek a normal V8, but theirs just a scary sound upon start up and during warm up. I cant sit their for 10 minutes warming up an engine.

Ali,

Get that checked out asap. Go to an independent shop and ask them to check it out.

It could be the pulley tension, belt tensioner roll, etc.

Something doesn't sound right and it seems like there's certain loose components in the engine compartment.

Is your car still under warranty? My car sounded like this at one point and Starmark Warranty took care of it for me a few months ago.

Hoping its just the pully system and an easy fix.

Ok, got to the dealer, had a actual Tech I know come out and look at it......... Nothing. Didnt even sound like it would at any other time. He said your just not letting it warm up long enough. After long periods over night and such thats what it sounds like.

He then recomended that the next oil change, add a quart of Tranny fluid to my oil, and I looked at him shocked.

Said it would clean up little gunk that would make the valves stick? or something like that?

ALLLLLLLLSO, about our cars going up and down, or at least me and jay, he said it looks like their is a bad ride high sensor somewhere, and that it should get checked out. Worth going into it or do I like the up and down motion lol.

ALi,
Man I wish MB would be a little bit more consistant. They told me that it was just the system regulating itself after sitting at idle for 10 minutes. That it reduces the pressure in the system and lowers itself to the lowest setting. My ride is great, I have zero problems, so I won't take it in. I hate to risk them messing with the system and really mucking things up.
