Aftermarket Warranties for CL600/Which really Pays!

I am in the market for a CL600
I'm currently shopping for the right car at the right deal.
I have heard that aftermarket warranties mostly are a sham.
Is this true?

Has any members actually used their Aftermarket warranty to handle major issues such as ABC suspension issues ,electonic/electrical issues, transmision repair, etc.?

If you could please post your experience stating name of company, issue resolved ,cost of issue and cost of warranty that would be a big help.

I thought if we could create a list of the best to the worst it would help out a lot of us here on the forums.

Thanks for your input and Happy Holidays........

I got one from Warranty Direct for about $4500 right before mine went out of factory warranty. Wisconsin has tough consumer fraud laws, and some of 'em can't even sell here, so right off the bat this company had something going for it. The first time I had to use it was a few weeks ago when I had a bad seal around the area whee the oil cooler is (I think that's what it is...); anywho, my out of pocket on a near $500 bill at my indie guy was $84. Another guy had the same program I believe for his S600 which had major engine repairs needed; my indie guy said they were paying about 85% of the $5600 bill on that one. I would at least give 'em a try - and I'd definately want the protection on that car!

I have heard that they no longer cover the V12's or AMG's, but I would try EasyCare. I have a warranty from them that I purchased when the factory warranty ended about 2 years ago. I haven't needed it until a few weeks ago, when my check engine light came on. I was worried about them trying to weasel out of the bill, given some of the horror stories I've heard, but they covered everything (coil packs, oil pressure sensors, a door control module, etc).

These were the first major repairs the car has needed (02 CL600, 53k miles), and the bill came to around $9k. I knew it was only a matter of time. The warranty was the best $4k I ever spent.

I have a JM&A warranty on my S500 (04, 15k miles) but I've only used it once to repair TPMS system and replace the TCM. No problems with them so far, but I'm not sure if they will cover a 600.

Good luck with your search!

Wow! I was talking to a friend of mine who is the parts guy @ Tysons Mercedes and he was explaining to me that you pretty much can't just replace a single coil pack on that motor and that it's like $1k+ just for the parts if a single coil goes bad. Ouch! Good thing your warranty covered you.

First Automotive is who I have my extended warranty through. I have a 03 CL600. I have used them and they are ok. It is really hard to find one that will carry a V12 or AMG

The problems on the 600 and the 65 will be exactly the same. With the 55., the only difference will be the coil packs but the 55 will suffer from issues surrounding the supercharger.

Yes, please every one stay away form the 600's I want to be the only one on the road with one. Mine has been a dream not many problems at all. I was a former BMW guy but not anymore after this one. BTW if you did not purchase your AMG from mercedes and want to purchase an extended warranty through them forget it. The will not cover any AMG or V12.
