Converting a w215 front to a w216 front good or bad?
Hi guys.
I recently bought a 2003 Cl600 with a mangled front end and many other things broken.
I figured why not try it out, I have a great friend helping me, who is used to bebuilding salvage cars.
I thought about building a W216 front end on this car since it is mangled up good anyway.
What do you guys think, will the angled w216 lights and broader grill destroy the great looks of the w215?
Pros/cons of this conversion, let me hear your ideas.
David

Whatever there's gas in...
Congrats on the purchase!
I wouldn't do it man, it would never blend with the rest of the lines of the car and it would make it look like some type of kitcar franken-benz, not to mention any other issues you may come across in the future..Just rebuild the factory front end and use it as an excuse to throw a (tasteful) bodykit on your ride!

2005 CL65 (current), 2001 CL600 (chopped)
How much spare time do you have? How much experience do you have fabricating custom works of metal/plastic/whatever the body panels are going to be made of? If you can do it, go for it. Worst case scenario you lose a little time, money, but you can still say you tried.

This is a projekt car only and therefore time is no issue.
My friend that is helping me is a very good metalworker so he can make the nessary brackets and do the aluwork on the hood etc.
I am still contemplating it, my biggest concern is the price of the w216 headlights, I cant seem to find any used and I dont even want to guess how much they are costing from new
I was planning on modding an already damaged hood to allow for the wider grill.
I also have a pair of slightly damaged fenders that would be perfekt for modding to fit the headlights.

I think it would horrid since the w215 has a much lower hood line than the 216. In profile the front of the car would be higher than the rear.
I'd just repair the 215

Someone in Germany has done what you are thinking of, to a C140, using a W221 front end and a CL grill.
