ARE THE 215's THE BEST BENZ COUPES?

As far as reliability, it may go down as one of the least reliable Mercedes ever built. The ABC is just so horribly bad and kills an otherwise OK car. The coil packs on the 600's are another sore spot.
i would not dispute that the pre-2005 's had more problems that would have liked.
but, i think that was true of all the electronified benzes.

but the ones that i enjoy driving the most are the 215's.
in fact, i added another cherry 2006 cl500 to my fleet today. this one with options that the first one i acquired didn't have[sirius, parktronic, electronic trunk control]
it was cpo'ed. and the previous owner took care of it. virtually pristine.
and, they are the drop dead most gorgeous cars that benz ever built. imo.
i don't use them as sole daily drivers. they are just part of a driving rotation.

for example, i have an jennair oven that continues to surprise.
and recently, i found a a/c unit that wasn't cooling. it is almost 10 years old. a rupture in the outdoor condensing coil.
as you might notice i own a number of older benzes. their maintenance history is mixed. still, i maintain them.
i wish i could maintain myself as well.
of all the benzes that i own, i have come to prefer the 215's[also the porsche cayenne turbo] as my daily drivers.
i had thought to keep this little collection of sacco era coupes extant for years. until the market recognized their beauties and virtues.
but stage 4 cancer is finally telling me that i may not see the day when sacco era cars become prized.
sometimes i think of selling them off as a collection, instead of one at a time.
the one i may never sell is the e320cab. perhaps my sister will sell it from my estate. but she just might keep it.
i would if i were her.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
added another 2006 cl500 to my stable.
you know, when i bought my first cpo'ed one in 2009, i didn't realize that mbusa had added options to the sonderklasse cars.
in my pre-2000 era of buying benzes, all sonderklasse cars were loaded.
all this cl500 got was keyless go.
but after reading the manual, i wanted those other options[sirius, electronic trunk, parktronic, ventilated seats].
finally found one.
fewer miles than my cl500, a few more than my cl55.
my garage space now says that i have to dispose of something. my target is the 1986 560sel with 255,000 miles. it is in great shape and well-maintained. no rust. always garaged in an a/c space. in metro-houston. i have kept it because i have always thought that it would be a candidate for restoration and pebble beach. platinum blue with blue leather.
but to drive it now will require a rebuild of the vickers power steering pump. i am not keen on spending money on that, now. life is too short.
i have determined that i much more prefer driving the final iteration of the 215's.
