CL dash lights fade in and out.
Last night on my way home I noticed that my dash lights were starting to fade in/out. They never went out completely just got dim and then bright. Has anyone had this happen and does it normally lead to a dash cluster or something else?

Many of the W215 and W220 clusters were having issues, therefore there was a lengthy warranty extension in regards to the clusters. Your cluster should be covered under the long warranty extension. Go see your dealers service dept.

Yes the warranty info is correct. I have an 01 and the extended warranty on it was for 10 years to 2011. Unfortunately I just bought my cl600 and it was out of warranty. My cluster did the same thing you are talking about. It completely went out about three weeks after the first incident. Cost me $1,100 plus tax to fix.

If you live in the U.S the head units have a recall on them until 2013
Any CL or S Class from 2000-2006 will be replaced under the recall. Everyone who ones a CL or S Class should call MBZ and talk to the support staff. They will tell you what to do. They will also reimburse you if you paid to have the head unit replaced. It is a FEDERAL safety issue and they have all been recalled. If you miss the recall end date then your out of luck. Your dealer should have told you about the recall. I had mine done even though nothing was wrong. The service advisor just did it when I was in for service, they also replaced the high pressure line that goes along the body (above the cat's) that is also a recall on any ABC fluid driven system. 2013 is the date for that as well. Check the website for more recall information on your car. If you paid, you will get reimbursed. If they give you any trouble contact the government agency that handles these issues. They will take the matter over for you.

hi, just called my service rep about this recall. he said it wasn't a recall. said mercedes would assist with repair until 2013 if there is a problem with the cluster. he said nothing can be done unless there is an issue with it. any feedback. is this correct?

i contacted 2 mercedes dealers and mercedes usa and was told by all that the instrument cluster will only be replaced if the computer shows a fault code, other wise no replacement. i went to the gov't. site and put in recall code number in the various searches and nothing came up. anyone have any more clarification on this issue?

MERCEDES-BENZ RECALLS CL, SL, AND S-CLASS FOR ABC PROBLEM
By Timothy Cain on August 29, 2008 | From goodcarbadcar.blogspot.com
There's a funny thing that happens as technology moves the goalposts and NHTSA starts dealing with hugely expensive automobiles: the Recalls are bad news, of course, but they sure are hard to figure out. Has a recall ever meant good news?
Mercedes-Benz is issuing a recall affecting 4,564 of their most expensive cars. The 2001-2008 CL-Class, 2002-2007 S-Class and 2003-2007 SL-Class all fall under the lovely recall banner.
Because of active body control, these vehicles have acceleration sensors on the front struts. "These sensors measure acceleration around the Z-axis of the vehicle and assure an automatic adaptation of the front struts to maintain a relatively level body position. Variations in the soldering process resulted in soldering points on the board of the ABC sensors which may not be within design tolerances. Signals from the affected sensors measuring the acceleration may not be accurately transmitted to the engine control unit."
"A variation in the transmitted values between affected and unaffected sensors can result in one front strut adjusting to a value indicating body movement while another strut does not adjust presenting the driver with an uneven front suspension. This condition may lead to unexpected body movements at the front axle which can adversely influence the vehicle's directional stability and could lead to a vehicle crash."
TheRecall is beginning in September. It could be difficult to determine if your car is affected. Mercedes-Benz is reachable at 1-800-367-6372.Representing a generation of first-time new car buyers, The Good Car Guy puts words to their thoughts and feelings. ******File your complaint here. Trust me they take this stuff very seriously. Even if it is out of the "10 years" They will make the manufacturer pay for repairs. If your car does have the issues stated and you have gone passed the campaign date they will intervene for you.
