Not for a cl55 I don't think. I Checked kbb and top is 16-18k when clean. At 12-13 k I would be extremely concerned about the condition of the car. At 12-13k it would probably be a beater with a poorly kept ABC system and higher mileage.

At that price point, It would be better for me to drive this car until the wheels fall off. If your gauge is correct I will just have to keep it considering the nice extras on it. You may yet be right. Let's see what others think.

Feedback truly appreciated.

AA.

He's right, you can get a 600 for 15K and it will be immaculate. I've bought two sadly.

A 55, no matter how nice, is gonna be right about the same range, slightly less. Throw it up on ebay and see what kind of responses you get, it's a special car and takes a special buyer, but if you find the right person you may get what you want for it.

ItalianJoe,

I recently found a shop willing to work with me if an ABC issue arises. My current cars ABC is working fine now (knock on wood) due to annual flushes of the ABC system. However, I don't quite fancy my chances over the long haul. Based on current prices however I don't see how I can get any other car that's pushing 490 hp for 12-15k.

You bought two cl600s? I don't blame you because for me once suspension issues are removed you got a massive bargain.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yeah, I've always loved the v12tt cars, and they have finally fallen into my price range (10-12K at auction) for me to buy one to replace my weekend play car 350Z with. I picked up a beautiful one back in July, got hit by a teenage girl who wasn't paying attention and pulled right out in front of me, bought another one after insurance settled up with me.

As you say, when sorted, it's absolutely an phenomenal car, impossible to match for the money. Personally, I wouldn't take the 55 over the 600 if it's available, but that's mainly the tuner in me wanting to take advantage of the additional performance potential in the bi-turbo car.

The suspension system is amazing when working correctly, and if you're maintaining it and using Nick's awesome threads on here, it really isn't that bad to manage and returns performance far and away superior to any other system out there.

I'm also a tech, so all of the work is done by me, which saves greatly on the running costs of the car. We have to bear in mind that this was a $130K car when new, and was going to require more upkeep than a toyota, but the rewards are worth the investment IMO.

These were $130k cars new and repair costs can approach the costs of lambo or Ferrari if taken to a dealership for servicing . And that's why the resale prices are so low. The average person cannot afford to maintain these cars. Only the small percentage of people who can work on their own cars can afford to keep them running . That greatly limits your pool of buyers for your cl55

Luckily , unlike Ferrari or lambo , there are lots of cheap used parts thanks to eBay so if you can diy these cars can be affordable

But yes most people choose cl600 over cl55, and with cl600 available at 10-12k it's going to be very difficult to find a buyer willing to pay $16k for a cl55. You'll have to wait around to find the right buyer and it may be difficult if not impossible . At $12000 it would be easier to find a buyer

Honestly other than the usual valve cover gasket, fuel pump, lower control arms and engine mounts (all mercs have these silly issues) my car has been solid. I have learned to flush the ABC and inspect all hoses annually as a preventive measure based on these forums.

I will not be selling anymore as I have looked at other comparable mercs and they cost way too much for me. Now, I am not broke, but I prefer to keep my money in my pocket instead of my local dealers coffers.

I will be converting my ABC to a coilover solution in the next few months. Apologies in advance to the purists but this is insanity driving a ticking time bomb.

Thanks guys.
