The ten common failure areas of the w215 chassis

These cars are remarkably robust and will go 200k miles easily but there are some common failure areas I will list here

In the coming days I'll also link to cheap repairs for most items

1. Crank position sensor (cps)
2. Electronic accelerator pedal
3. Leaky transmission plug
4. Abc suspension
5. door control module
6. Front control arms /ball joints
7. Theft related parts (alarm siren , ecu, eis, key, shifter)
8. Water damage from Sunroof drains , reed valve , or taillights
9. Instrument cluster (if not fixed under recall or extended warranty )
10. For v12 cars only - coil packs and ignition transformer

I feel like "engine and trans. mounts" should be on the list. I also don't see much in the way of 7, 8, and 9 listed, above, but it's possible the V12/AMG guys may be more on top of maintenance (?).

Transmission wiring seal leak & door wiring shorts seem to be common issues as well.

OOPs, sorry, I thought you meant a drain plug or something else. Looking forward to the great job you always do putting all of this together for the rest of us to benefit from.

My car has 189k miles, pretty sure it'll make it to 200k no problem but i have a few quarks.

1. Sometimes if I drive it a few hours after taking it out earlier it cranks maybe 5-10 longer than it should. I guess it could be the cps.

2. ABC, i think we all gets issues with this. I only get occassional white errors but for some reason my steering wheel will always tilt left when the ABC has an error...then corrects itself back to center if I restart the car.

3. Front control ball joints are blown...

4. Theft related...for whatever reason my keys will fall out of sync with my car after exactly 3hrs. If the car is locked after 3hrs and i use the remote only the gas tank door unlocks. I have to use the key blade to open the door.

Should say my car is an 01 so I know its not the best year to own. Ive owned it 2yrs and havent had any problems i couldnt handle myself.
