M279 engine
My curiosity is this, the m279 uses single coil packs which are dual spark so there is six single coil packs one for each dual spark cylinder.
Now can we use these coil packs on our m275 engines, or will the Ecu and spark system of the m279 make it not possible?
If not does anyone know of anyone who has (makes) single coil packs for the m275 the 03-06 models?
Just buy two new coil packs and be done with it. 2k and you're good for another 15 years. Not worth adding a bunch of new parts that don't work to try to avoid replacing the stock coils.
I don't want to worry about having to replace an entire coil pack for $700-$800 just to replace my plugs because the coil pack got damaged taking it off, one hell of a plug change cost.
No dealer or Indy shop will guarantee the coil packs if you have them change your plugs, say what you want but your plugs need to be changed more then once every 15 years especially once it gets more and more miles on the engine and performance in mods.
I do have new coil packs but it's been 3 years and I need to check my plugs a couple of them are running a lil rich on my right bank. How awesomely convenient would it be to just remove one single coil pack with flex braided plug connector wires that eliminate the risk of damage to the plug connector and the coil pack!
Anyways that is my interest in single packs.
You have to be pretty heavy handed to break a coil pack, they're fairly strong really. If you lever it out a couple of mm at a time it will be OK. That takes minutes rather than seconds, so not so bad.
If a coil overheats, you can change them individually if you're handy.

If you just changed them 3 years ago and you used proper plug grease inside the boots, they should come right out. The only reason they break is when the boot sticks onto the plug so bad it pulls the coil out of the rail. After the first time they've been changed, this should never be an issue unless the person installing them is just slapping them back without grease.
