2002 CL500
2002 CL500 drivers' door module is intermittent
Hi, I am new around here and look forward to your wise advice. My 2002 CL500 drivers' door module that controls the seat, windows, etc. works only intermittently and I suspect it will go out soon. Is there anyone who sells these modules new? I have seen some used, but parts houses don't seem to have them. Does a Mercedes dealership even sell them?

I would first check the wiring, going from the body to the door. This is a very bad design on the CL, creating a lot of problems. Had to repair on both of my CL500s.

Thanks, I will do that. Did you have to check wiring at both ends to find a problem or was it at the module?

Broken wires. In the middle between the body and the door. Very common problem with high mileage CL models.

2002 CL500 to CL55 conversion
i second the wiring between the doors being problematic, havent had issues myself yet, i think the fact that we dont see temps below 30 farenheit here in florida has something to do with it. however i expect to need to complete this job one day

One last question, did you simply replace the wiring harness, or do any splicing? I assume the best answer is to replace the wiring harness.

After cutting the "boot" we had to add some wires to be properly spliced. I am certain there would be a lot of work involved if you were to replace the wiring harness, providing you could obtain one.

I am glad to hear you did not have this problem yet. I don't think the temperature has much to do with it, but more the, as Mercedes quotes it, "new door hinge mechanisms"( A multi-link design). The extra length of the wires, and the constant opening and closing of the door, causes the thin wires to simply break. A similar issue is with the wiring to the phone connection in the centre armrest.

We left the boot in place, only cut it open horizontally - and taped it up vertically after splicing the wires.A new boot would require a lot of work, removing panels in the body and in the door.
