CL 600 Trans Stall Speed

Hi All, I recently purchased a 2005 CL 600. The car runs and drives very well but the rpms have to build up a little higher than I'm used to before the car takes off. It doesn't feel like the trans is slipping, just doesn't start to pull until maybe 1100 rpm. If you take off quickly it isn't noticeable but creeping in traffic I do notice. Any thoughts?,

Pretty normal, in comfort mode it starts in 2nd gear so it feels like it's slipping due to the greater load. Try it in S mode, it will go back to 1st gear, and see if you still notice it. Most likely you won't. I leave the car in S for that reason, I hate the slipping feeling of starting off in 2nd, even though the car has plenty of power for it. Besides, I often like to drive too aggressively and the S shifting is just much better.

Resurrection!

Oh good... It's not just me either then! I thought something was broken when I test drove it until the seller told me the very same thing about pulling away in second.

Thought I'd add, I just bought a Sprint Booster (our cars use the 451 model apparently). It intercepts the Fly-by-Wire signal between the pedal and the throttlebody, amplifies it and thus improves the response of the pedal. Worth a Google. I'll let you know how it behaves once installed

Installed - game changer. Definitely wakes the car up. I picked up a second hand one for 80 quid posted - but now I've driven with it, I'd have thrown the 200 quid at it for sure.

Car is transformed. It's going to get me into so much trouble!

What's nice is that you can easily flit between SPORT, RACE and OFF. Not sure I can be arsed with the LOCK and VALET modes, just setting the SPORT and RACE settings to 9 is fine for me. Stone me though, you gotta be gentle on that throttle

V12TT is already an animal - now it's just bonkers

All those things do is send a larger signal relative to what you are moving the pedal. It stil can't go past 100%, and the scale is not linear on the MB products anyway so a small increase tends to be a bigger jump.

You could accomplish the same thing by just hitting the pedal a little harder, all that box is doing is making your 30% throttle into 60%, making the car move harder. Just step down more if you need more.

That’s absolutely spot-on. It does effectively push the pedal further for you. There is a lot to be said for pedal travel vs expected response however, and the CL just never felt quite right for me in that department. The gizmo makes it ‘seemingly’ behave more like a cable throttle (depending on the setting).

I only now need to touch the throttle now and experience a much more lively response; even in the most sensitive setting, I can still operate it smoothly - it’s just being familiar with what to expect and in my opinion, the response finally matches the expectation.
