Noisy ABC system, I think.

Hi folks, I had the high pressure expansion hose blow on my car, I was unable to pull over safely and shut down right away. I had my pump rebuilt out of an abundance of caution since it is so difficult to get to. I wound up replacing the HPE hose, the hose to the right front line to the strut and the high pressure line also because of the difficulty of doing this repair. I have it all back together and the system is working fine but there is a loud whirring sound which varies with engine speed. I suspect either air in the system or failed pulsation damper or both. I am wondering if I will do any harm driving it in hopes of working the air out. I have cycled the abc vehicle raise-lower button maybe 10-12 times in hopes of getting the air out. Does anyone have opinions? Thanks!

Thanks bobterry99, I have one on order, I just wanted some 2nd opinions. Do you think I will damage anything driving it until the damper comes in?

I dont think you should drive while you wait for part

There's a possibility the failed dampner caused the hose failure

I'm a case study in abuse of abc systems. Run it. Way more robust than you'd think. But it is your money btw consider swapping out all the hoses at once. I did one at a time the first three. Then replaced the rest in one shot "while I was in there". Just a piece of mind thing. I got new hoses made from the MB terminals. Cheaper. Working great. What a suspension!

Thanks for the reply, I agree with you about the hoses. I had replacements made at a hydraulic shop re-using the MB ends and it worked great, I only did the front ones since they are really hard to get to but I am definitely considering replacing all of the rest at once. After the repair I still had a loud whirring sound so I replaced the Vibration Damper and ran the Rodeo, this greatly reduced the sound but not eliminated it. I never used the bleeder on the right front corner and wonder if I should have. That is the only hose to a strut which was replaced. I figure they put the bleeders there for a reason so that is my next step.

Cool. From what I have read the bleeders are there to reduce the pressure from the system prior to service. I have opened the system a handful of times and just made sure the reservoir had enough fluid. Good luck.

im also haveing the whirl noise at certain engine speeds ----- so the fix would be to replace the dampner on the pump?

thanks in advance

It's probably not a bad idea. I had more than one issue. After replacing the hose that burst and getting everything back together I had the loud whirring sound, then I replaced the Vibration damper because they are a service item and only last so long. It helped a lot but I still had noise. After reading many other peoples posts on the subject I thought it may be as simple as a line rubbing the frame, sure enough that's what it was, a metal part of the high pressure line contacting the engine cradle. I had missed a clamp which held it to the block.

The whirl sound I thought I had to do with the rotation the of the pump pushing fluid through the lines. But if the car is steady and not moving / in motion. At idle. I can hear the surge. I thought it might of been related to valve block solenoid staying open and fluid leaking back in to the line. Or air

I could be wrong but I think the symptoms of valve block problems don't create noise but do cause the struts to sag when the car is parked.

The reason is say valve block is because the abc system is closed and in loop when u raise the car the solenoids open and fluid is pushed to the struts. If a solenoid is stuck open while the pump is in operation fluid is being pushed around in the system causing pressure to drop on the lines. Making it seem like the pump is surging - is what I thought was going on - I could be wrong though

Hello I just bought a 04 W215 and ABC all works fine but I do hear a clink or knocking noise as the car idles coming from the pump. Trying to find the root cause ? Help ? Not sure if pulley needs tightening or as I read on this forum the Dampener or Accumulator
