Battery change in Walmart go south

Hi, after a long time I finally fix my busted rear shock ABC hose and run my 01 CL500 to wash then I went to Walmart to get a new battery, I bought it and I don't know why I asked the guy can you replace my battery, he came and with a 10mm ratchet took the old one out and put the new battery to it's place, put the positive terminal and on the negative terminal it didn't go on the pole, I see a spark also and pay more attention and find out he put the battery 180 degree opposite and he was crossing the polarity. I stopped him we turned the battery around and connected the right way. I tried to start the car and it cranked but it didn't start, I smelled electrical burn too. Long story short, we changed 3 or 4 blown fuses , Car started but radio come back but no sound coming out of it, all functions working but no sound. My AC blower's fan showing full bars but it's not coming on . ABC red caution light coming saying drive slowly to the work But car is high and functions are normal, BAS white caution and EFS warning also coming. With my scan tool (Launch) I got diagnostic codes here is the pictures. Now I need to know where is the ABC control module in this car , blower motor is fried or there is something else I need to check and what to do with radio sound? I checked all fuses they are ok. Thanks for the responses in advance.

These cars with so many modules, and memory chips, are very susceptible to voltage spikes. But more times than not, a reset after a complete electrical shutdown, can clear a lot if not all of the fault codes.

Unfortunately these are the after reset codes.

Maybe see if you can get to a good independent shop.
Unfortunately, the car might be mechanically totaled. Maybe not, but there is the possibility.

Such a nice car, and its terrible to have something like this happen, but if it fried enough things, the car might not be worth fixing.

Well I called Mercedes stealership today they said we are not looking more than 10 years old cars. Also while I was going there car stopped working because new battery died. So Alternator also shot.

Honestly the guy owned his mistake , he said if a shop says these faults happened because of the crossing battery,we will pay damages. One good thing happened yesterday, I was taking the amplifier out for checking,I see a 20A fuse on it, and it was blown, changed it and wa laaa, radio sound came back. I bought other parts like ABC module, AC blower motor and resistor. When they arrive we will see how it works. The only thing I didn't decide yet is ABS light on , I cleaned the module but it didn't do any good. Maybe ABS module and motor has to be replaced too.

Crazy labor asked

Continue with my crossed battery repairs, a shop asked $550 labor for replacing AC blower and alternator. I tackled by myself and replaced ac blower and resistor, resistors capacitors was blown . I didn't check the blower motor because I didn't want to do the job twice so I replaced it too.
Alternator is also out , regulator was different than what I got so I ordered it and waiting for arrival, there is also an other small part in between the small wire connections one is the blade the other is small nut holds behind the alternator. I am changing that part too. There is a diode and a 70amp resistor in between.

It has 2 bolts holding it, you have to take the belt off of it too. Actually I didn't take it out from the car, I took the windshield wipers reservoir out and coolant reservoir to the side , and reached down there. Turned it over take the back cover out 2 screws holding it. If you need to take alternator out , probably raising the car with a jack on the front passenger side could help or you need to take the radiator fan shroud out. It is not a horrible job, half day you will be done.

Alternator parts changed BUT!!!

Finally alternator parts came , I changed them and put the alternator back on the car, I started my car. And no problems it starts. To check out the alternator chargeing, I disconnected the positive pole of the battery and car dies. That means my alternator is not giving any voltage to the car. So I looked up to the fuse box schematic tried to find a fuse for alternator but I didn't see any fusible link or fuse for alternator. Any ideas to check out the alternator before I but a new one?

I just think very few people have had this happen to them. But at least if you do get it fixed you will know your car inside and out.

As of yesterday I fix all problems, 2 modules on the left side fuse box under the hood also burned and replaced. A/C blower motor resistor capacitors was blown. I was not sure if that new modules requires programming, but after I replaced them I cleaned the fault codes and they worked ok, without programming.

Great job getting this all fixed. I’ve definitely crossed wires two different times in my driving history and thankfully didn’t so much as pop a fuse. When this happens, the wires get immediately very very hot and if you try to start the car, it is super bad. Really, kudos to you.

Pretty shocking statement that the dealer didn’t want to work on a car that’s more than 10 years old. It sounds like they are taking the 20 year lifecycle of a car and turning it into a 10 year life cycle, shocker. I bet in a few months some of these dealers are begging for work..
