CL 500 (550)
No more CL... EVER!
...it will be called "S-Class Coupé" from autumn 2009. S-Class gets a facelift then, so probably the CL, erm S-Class Coupé will get some minor facelift as well; along with some tech-upgrades (2nd gen. Nightvision is for sure, rumoured is a nav monitor where e.g. the driver can view the map while the passenger from his/her angle can watch a movie).

zzboba, thanks for the update
Whatever it's called, the CL63 030/65 have a deep base of repeat buyers/addicts in US, esp in SiliconValley and in Greenwich.....when cars are as superbly engineered as are the AMG CLs, nomenclature nonsense is fairly irrelevant....
BTW, how are sales of new AMG CLs in Munich/Frankfurt? US sales have generally collapsed, but know several addicts in SF/LA/NYC who get a new copy every 4-6mos, no matter what....sort of like how guys algorithmically get new Blackberries....

I agree that the name is of no relevance, and merc naming was getting confusing anyway. CL, CLK, CLS, CLC... then there's the C-Class...
Something like "600 SEC" would be nice, as in the old days
Car sales in Germany are generally bad currently -- and it's also affecting the premium segment (except super exotics like Ferrari). Not bc the target audience couldn't afford them, but the future tax situation for company cars is kind of unclear and then there's this hype about big cars being solely responsible for the melting of the polar caps

I think the idea of going back to the E coupe and doing away with the CLK name is OK but calling the CL a S class is lame even if was called one before...the CL is a flagship and needs its own name IMO.
