Removing the CL550 emblem on the trunk?
How does Mercedes apply these? If like other manufactures it can be removed with a hair drier without damaging the paint. Anyone know?

Several MB's Superperformance MK III Cobra
They are held on with double sided tape. The hair dryer method will work as well as using dental floss to cut the letters and numbers off.

WIll it leave a "shadow" of the old lettering, lets say its been on a few years, the paint may show a different shade, kinda like on buildings??

Thanks, I got the "0" off with a hair drier and dental floss. The double sided tape was harder to get off (took about 15 minutes). I stopped after the "0" and will go by the local auto parts store and see if they have something that I can use that will make this easier and won't damage the paint. Right now I have a 2008 CL55 I guess I could leave it that way, I would be the only one with a 2008 CL55 The removal of the "0" did not leave any evidence that it was ever there, my car was manufactured in December of 2007.

Picked up a 3M product that took the adhesive off after I removed the CL 55 that was still on the car. Looks good and clean now. I like not having the CL 550 on the car. Figure if someone does not know what it is then they don't know MB.

I don't even understand the poser idea. If someone knows the car then they would know that a CL55 was not made in this model year. Even if someone put a CL63 or 65 on their car anyone that knew the models would know it was off. If someone did not know the models the numbers don't mean anything to them??? Mater of fact if I did not know I would think a 550 was more powerful then a 63 or 65 and the big dog would be a 600 . I do like the fact that unlike the other models the 550 doesn't have emblems all over the car. It really looks good with just the Mercedes logos front and rear and not a bunch of letters and numbers that most people have no idea what they mean. JMHO

It looks good with just the MB star emblem. Very clean. If someone doesn't know my CL from a C I don't really care. I like the clean look, never allow dealer names on my cars and if the V12 emblem makes yours go faster then keep it on

To each their own that is for sure.
Bumper stickers and advertisements (dealer name) is a whole other can of worms. I see many BMW people with 318's and 325's remove their emblems to make it seem that they have a 330. I've seen a few MB people do the same. Rarely do you ever see a MB that's top in their class be it C, CL, S or what ever remove their emblem.
I really don't think people with confuse your CL for a C, but they might perhaps confuse it for the top of its class, conveniently. This is where your wanting to make it look clean can appear that you are wanting it to seem to be more than it is.
