2003 1/2 CL cabrio AMG

Here is the illustration as seen in Sept. 2002 Road & Track. R&T reports this monster will be powered by the all new V12. I'm assuming this means it is the V12 Twin Turbo from the Maybach.

Nice pic, but the fact of putting a V12 turbocharged on that car makes it really wild and attractive! Go Benz, do it!

What will the top material be on this CL convertible? Is it going to be a soft top like the one in the CLK or something more farfetched like a power hard top? I know the latter is unlikely because it would clash with the new SL - but then again, it is a limited edition! I would love it if MB goes all they way with this new model (by doing a hardtop), as I hate softtops in general, and I do not know how it will affect the looks of the CL
Anyway, I am looking forward to this model! Eventually I will have to decide between it and the 2004-05 SL 600! (although something tells me there are not going to be many left around - but it is worth dreaming).

Though the Cl is big four seater there are cars that have 4 seat convertable hard top

Remember the 3000GT VR4 Spider and the current Lexus SC430 both of them have/had 4 seats and a convertable hard top. Anyway i guess we need to see the new CLK and what they do with that. If it gets a convertable hard tops then More then likely the CL will get it too

I heard it is not comming to the U.S. and that just a limited number will be produced by MB via help from Karmann doing the chop top conversion.

How much more will the V12 engine weigh than the AMG 5.4 Kompressor engine? I have read that they will both generate about 500 hp although the torque numbers are probably higher for the V12. The reason for the question is that the CL 600 is front-end heavy compared to the CL 500 or 55 and noticable in handling. I would opt for the 5.4 L Kompressor engine if given the choice.

I truly hope they will put a retractable hardtop in this CL comvertible. That way, it would preserve the gorgeous looks, which in my opinion would suffer slightly because of a ragtop. NOw that would be a car to "kill" for, I mean, the wallet.

I don't know about a convertible CL....it kind of resembles the SL a lot........that would be a weird move on Mbz' part. But I'm sure it will look beautiful.

This thing is coming out after 2003.5 . It's kinda obvious, I think, because the active headlight cornering system isn't coming about until the 2004 model year. Check out the headlights. Compare them to another picture of the AHCS. Bingo.

maybe we are getting a CL cab

Dealer just met with factory rep for CLK and E class training....

Factory rep confirmed that the clk cab will come out next summer and have a SOFT top....the big news here, is that he said both 4 seater convertibles for next year will have soft tops wink wink....

would not say anymore than this, however its more than likely that he was referring to the CL (at least thats my guess and my dealers)....

other news is that we should see the new CLK AMG coupe by jan

wouldnt this thing be a LITTTLE too big, i really hate the idea. The car is gonna be too be and will lose it sporty, coupe stilling, they should make a drop-top C-Class, or ever better a drop top CLK but CL is just way to big and would look to wierd.

A drop top C-class?

Too big? no way, the CL drop would look great and probably have a waiting list of 3 years minimum. What about the RR corniche? or Bently Azure? Now those are massive convertables.
