CL 55 vs. SL 55 - Who wins?

I saw the numbers that motor trend posted for the SL55.
0-60 4.39
0-100-0 14.40
1/4 mile 12.55 @ 116.10

Im curious as to how the 2003 CL55 will compare in numbers. Is it much heavier? How will it perform in comparison to the SL55?? Any thoughts, opinions, insights??

According to the latest Mercedes Germany numbers, the SL55 will be the fastest Benz in their lineup.

SL55 (Kompressor) 0-100km/h in 4.7 sec.
Cl55, S55 (Kompressor) 0-100km/h in 4.8 sec.
CL600, S600 (Maybach engine) 0-100km/h in 4.8 sec.

100km/h is about 62+ mph, that why the rated numbers are a little higher than the US.

What's interesting is that the SL55 with 4,235 lbs. is actually be heavier than the CL55 or S55, but beats them, including the new 600 versions.

Isn't there some marketing involved in posting these numbers? I hear the W211 E55 is supposed to beat the SL55, but they'll never admit it in their marketing materials. I guess we'll just have to wait until an independent magazine test out these cars.

Ofcourse there is marketing involved. They cant possibly post the same numbers for the E class so that they can give reason for those buyers to spend an extra 30-40K on a S, SL, or CL. They are going to use the same engine in the E class, but they are going to "tune" it down a bit. Finding those extra 30-35 h.p. is going to be a breeze for the new E class owners. My prediction is that the E class will be the fastest of the 4 with very minor tuning.

Don't forget the drag Co.

I realized that your conversation was mainly about the wight,
but i think i read somthing about the drag Co. of the SL i think it was 0.29 and the drag Co. of the CL is 0.28.

if you put those into consederation it might help.

anyway from my calculations concerning the wight faq. only is: in order for the CL to be faster it should be within 100Kg/220 Pounds heavear (sence it will be 493HP) not more

so my guess is if they wight the same then the CL should win but we will never know unless we try.

if anyone from the soon to get CL55's has anything new PLS shear it with us

SL55 weighs 1955 kg
CL55 weighs 1975 kg
CL600 weighs 2075 kg and has 590lbs torque vs 516 of SL/CL
I don't care about factory estimates ,I fully expect in car mags tests, best accelleration times for CL600, than SL55 and CL55.
Superior torque of CL600 should overcome 120kg disadvantage.
