Thumbs up 030 option

I am 1 month into my new CL63--the 030 option up here is forged rims, deletion of limiter(hah) and carbon fibre interior. That's it.

Only other change is access to Germanic Grey-(I have it)-unique to CL series in Canada-available I expect elsewhere in Designo

Don't forget on the 63 series engines there is an additional carbon filter "above" the conventional air filter. Required for after shut off gas emitions in California and New Jersey. Removal restores 18 hp--Does not affect warranty up here.

IceBreaker

08 CL63 Germanic Grey 030 Premium pkg Nite vision ,dynamic seats, etc
07 ML63 Iridium Silver- Back-up camera.PDC rear hatch etc

Congrats on your ride - I see your configuration (CL and ML) is not too different to what I'm planning on.

A question: Is your cover (the cover on the center key-pad above the number-input) in carbon or is it just colored matching to your leather-interior?

Regrettably it is leather--I am sure it can be ordered--It is standard on the limited edition CL65---the special paint version -I have seen one at the Mississauga Ont dealership

Can you provide instructions on how to remove the carbon filter?

Thanks for the info! In case I'm able to get the exterior parts from Germany, I'm going to have that cover added to my order. You are right, the Anniversary Edition has this part - but also the writing 'One of 40' on it - if I recall correctly.

This edition also comes with the Carbon exterior part in the rear-bumber that is part of the package in Germany...

Oh, just an update: I received a call today from my SA about special orders in the States. Well, as I expected, you can't get any bigger special orders in the US - so no news here...

BUT:

I was told that you can get the Carbon interior trim on the CL63 even WITHOUT ordering the 030-Package as a $2,500 stand-alone option. Now that was news to me!

MBUSA said that in the two big cars, the inclusion of an LSD would not make a significant enough improvement to justify cost.
That's choice--they can't justify the cost of an LSD when they're charging $7000 for a minor software alteration and set of rims. Especially when some people would gladly pay a few grand more for the LSD.

LSD is a limited slip differential. Put very simply, that this means is that if one of the rear wheels spins then power can be diverted to the other. Important in cars producing high torque as it allows them to launch in a straightline.

Gigi Buffon's a great keeper, by the way.

Normally an LSD would run around $300, if it were offered as an option on a regular car. From AMG, who knows.

I'm frankly floored by the cost of this and other such packages on high-end German cars. When you consider that an entire all-wheel-drive system usually runs under $2,000 ($3,000 on the S550), $7,000 for a small change to the software and different style wheels seems pricey.

Maybe they have to make some alterations to the car to handle the higher top speed? Different tires?

LSD (Limited Slip Differential) was explained in the previous post.

030 Package (incl. Carbon Interior Trim) is $7,000
Carbon Interior Trim alone is $2,500

Carbon outside is not available in the USA - you need to get the parts from somewhere else. I don't know the price yet...

I agree that the 030-Package should consist of a few additional features that make it more unique.

However, I don't agree that the package is pricey - at least not when you opt for the Carbon Trim. Please check out one of my previous posts. That shows the prices for the individual features in Germany.

The 'little' software upgrade to 186mph costs a whopping 3,451 Euro alone. That's about $5000. Carbon interior trim is 4,165 Euro ($6000) and the wheels are an additional 2,023 Euro ($3000).

So in Germany, you pay about twice as much for this package. We can complain about the content of this package, but not about the price.

A previous post implied that the carbon trim was an extra cost on top of the $7,000, I guess I misunderstood that part.

As far as totalling up what it costs in Germany, that the prices there are even more insane doesn't make the $7,000 a great value. Classic sales pitch: "This fabric protectant would normally cost $1,000, but it can be yours for only 500!"

It does serve to keep the riff-raff (me) out, though.

Why should the higher maximum speed cost so much? In the ECU, they'd just be replacing one number with another. If they make a bunch of tweaks to ensure reliable operation at those higher speeds, then it'd be easier to understand.

You are absolutely right. I don't agree that we always get the right value in return for what we're paying. However, mbusa is an exemption.

When buying a car like a Mercedes or a BMW or any other brand name product, you always have to pay for the brand itself.

Could Mercedes offer that stuff even cheaper? Oh yes, but why should they? It's a Mercedes...

That's why I see it from the positive side. The car I've ordered costs about $150K. In Germany, the identical car costs 178K Euro ($258000). The ML is $96K - in Germany, 128K Euro ($185000).

I always keep these numbers on my mind. When doing that, I don't see why I should complain about the US-prices. Or do you know any other country besides the US where we can get that much Benz for that amount of money?

We can complain that we don't have the options others have (designo etc.), but we don't pay too much for what we're getting.

Car prices are crazy low in the U.S. right now compared to just about anywhere else in the world. This probably isn't sustainable. So either the dollar recovers, or MB prices will have to go up, maybe even way up.

These companies usually hedge against currency fluctuations a couple years out, but it's been a couple years since the dollar began its nosedive...

No 030 For CL65

The dealer said that there was no 030 for my CL65. But said that Renntech had some cool aftermarket tunes. They would install but not stand behind it so no go on That. I only had car for about 2 weeks. Have to keep warranty in force.

with the AMG Mercedes Website as part of some reference for Part#'s, I guess if you really want one (not all would opt for the 030 but would love the H73 Interior Carbon and 773 Exterior Carbon Package), you can go Germany, visit the Mercedes Factory for pleasure then just order the parts there. i mean would they refuse your order considering you're giving business to them then just ship it over state side. i think that would work

though can you order the LSD separately through local US delaer if for example you don't have the 030PP? LSD really helps a lot
