Takes a special moron to pay >$100K for any used 65...or any used car for that matter
New, '09 CL65 is <$200K and is prob worth <$100K on trade-in (no matter miles) by Fall09 (if not sooner w/mid-cycle-revised MY10 on the way)
Biggest problem of trading in $200K+ cars in this credit crisis is that many dealers (and wholesalers) lack the balance sheet capacity to buy the damn car at any reasonable price, so sellers are sometimes stuck w/consignment BS, which can take many months (w/capital costs accruing to seller) in an illiquid mkt
After all, no one needs $200K+ new cars....let alone costly, obsolete, disposable used cars

If you check that dealer's inventory you'll see some other pretty exotic stuff. They also have a 2008 CL63 AMG with less than 12,000 miles for all of $119,999 and a 2008 SL65 AMG, ~1,000 miles, unlisted price! Now that worth drooling over. Star magazine had an article on those recently, and I don't remember what MSRP was, but it was up there. Still less than an SLR of course.

Well said. Dealers and buyers are checking their purse.
Look for all these 63s and 65s to be at 90k by march, 2009.
The sl 63s will suffer more as a body change will be in 2010.

I'd be interested to know who the '4 time Academy Award winner' former owner is...I suspect they can afford to take the hit.

I didn't think they hiked the price that high for the 08 CL65's..............I've already had 2(of apparently 20 in USA) in my shop for repairs. I thought the 65's were still at the $200k mark brand new.

That is the AMG 40th Anniversary edition...with the Alu beam paint job ($40K). They only made 40 worldwide...and 20 for the US market.

Even with a 40K paint job it should still be well shy of $300K. I guess the rest is just plain and simple mark-up. MB's margin on this limited edition must be around $200K and the dealership is probably making $50K. Anyone who spends $300K on a CL65 should have their head checked.
Dealers margin was only $21k though....
Crazy price for a essentially CL65 just a bit cosmetically enhanced.

The $200k price for the 40th annv edition is unrealistic. I think it's just a starting price for the dealer. These cars are so unique, there are no set price guidelines like kbb. It is what ever the market will bear. Keep in mine, for every day that sits on the lot the dealer's margin decreases.
If there is a 150K offer, let the negotiations begin. My opinion is that the value is the same as a fully loaded 65-that's it.
Definitely make an offer in a month if still on the lot.

Most people are just seeing another gray Cl65, and honestly even knowing all about it, if I had the money I'd rather spend it on a "regular" CL65 for about 60-80k less. 300k was so ridiculous for this car, only reason 20 people bought it was because it was the most expensive one. No doubt, its stunningly beautiful, but not damn near enough to 80k more beautiful. How much will the 221 65s tank when the face lifted version comes out? I say 15k It really is almost funny, unless you own one. But its such a great car, you might not care.
