CL63 is boring... what next?

Ok.. I hate to sound like a snob but I find the CL63 boring.

Yeah, it's fast. Sure, it's a cruiser and easy to drive. But I find it rather boring when it comes to handling and in turns.

I have a BMW 750Li which is more interesting to drive.

I'm not a troll and not trying to bash the CL but I think it's not my cup of tea.

My question for all of you (many of whom have 2nd cars) is what next? What's sporty enough to be "fun" to drive? I do about 20 miles of highway and 10 miles of streets just to get to work.

Thinking about... MB C63, BMW M3, Porsche Cayman, 911 S. What else should I consider and what do you all enjoy driving on a daily basis that handles better than the CL?

Why on Earth would you buy a CL 63 , and expect it to handle like a sports car? It is 90 thousand pounds.

One of the most incredibly beautiful rides ever

Suburu handles real nice,

Get a 997 Turbo, or if you really want to be uncomfortable and work hard to make it go get a 997GT3..

If I were 3" shorter, 25 lbs lighter, 20 years younger, and looking to drop an extra $50k, I would get the SL65, but it would never be as comfortable as the CL. Mercedes has done a marvelous job of offering ABC tuned, 500+ horsepower in a daily driver that doesn't feel like a race car unless requested. As Juicee mentioned, the heavy-by-design CL (and S) are not anyone's first choice on the road course, but you sure look good getting there. The 750Li is a great package, but far from what I would label as "interesting to drive" unless mastering the early production i-drive is considered to be "fun".

Let me clarify...

Hey guys.. let me clarify...

I'll be keeping the CL.. the 750Li is up on lease and looking for a more involved driving experience. Something smaller. Was looking for advice on a 2nd car.

Yes, the CL is probably one of the nicest cars on the road. I get complements about every time I drive it and that's even in a town with CL's all over the place.

But looking for something smaller, more maneuverable, etc.

I like the suggestion of a black series CLK. Also looking at M3, C63.. what else?

Consider an Acura NSX series 2

Anything after the 2002 model year that hasn't got "boy racer" or track upgrades. It gets 26 mpg, and is reliable as a Honda Civic. An MB1 oil and filter change at the dealer is about $80. Engine uses the same filter as the TL. Ask your Acura dealer to run a history on any car you are considering.

Compare that to any exotic!

It will out handle just about anything on the road and will cost you well under $100k.

Mine has gone UP in value since I purchased it.

I can almost guarantee you will be the only person around who has one.

It honestly depends on what you want. The CLK63 Black Series is going to be more fun to drive then the CL63 and if you are a big Mercedes enthusiast and want to keep it in the family, I suggest going with that. Personally, I wouldn't want to own a CL63 & a C63 at the same time. Doesn't make sense to me. If the CLK63 Black Series is not for you, then take a look at the BMW or Porsche family. Both will be fun to drive as a "weekend car." Depending on how much you want to spend, I would suggest a M3 to a 997 GT3RS. The BMW's definitely feel more like race cars and the Porsche's are just so much fun to drive since the handling and power is magnificent. I have heard great things about the Cayman but I'm not a fan. Hope this helps a bit.

Yes
If you want a true drivers car then the Lotus Exige is for you. If that's a little too spartan for you, tell me this...are you looking for a large sporty car; a luxurious sporty car; or...both? If you're looking for a car that'll really make you work at getting its full potential, a Viper might not be a horrible choice; the Viper is fast in almost any hands......but takes a truly skilled driver to master.

One word: GT-R. It is the fastest thing around and it handles like a dream. I am considering either C63/CLKBS/GT-R now as well.

Good point, the GT-R is a pretty kick *** car. Not quite my style with that inspired by Hoover front end...but still a great car. OR...an imported R34.

Porsche and Ferrari are for bends, and you don't have any, unless you want to take it to the track, but you don't seem that sort of guy.
The CL is a beautiful car, especially the new shape, but the back's not good
enough that's why I have a S600. I have a SL63 when I wan't to play sports
cars, especially with roof down. I imagine the BM is nice too. Just keep it as
is, that's my tuppence worth.
