New to the Forum and a CL55

Hey gang I am new here and am in the market for a 2003-2004 CL55AMG or (preferred 2003-2004 E55AMG).

Just a little background on me since it seems pertinent to this question. I have owned a Buick Grand National (12s in the 1/4), a heavily modded Eagle Talon Tsi (11s in the quarter), and currently own a 1997 Cobra (13s in the 1/4), so I would like to believe I have driven a few fast cars, but I've never had a supercharged car.

Here is my question:
I drove a 2003 CL55AMG (65k miles) today and I was sadly dissapointed. After reading on here and other forums and watching vids of both of these cars I was expecting a monster. I honestly have to say I think my Cobra would have whipped this car.

Please tell me I just drove one that's hurt? I have my heart set on one of the rides but I want the power a 12 second car offers with the luxury of a MB, and this one just didn't get my heart pumping.

The car was beautiful but I am very worried about buying it since it seems doggy and I don't want to buy an engine, if that would be the case.

Let me know what you guys think, was this one just a bad apple?

Marc

You should be able to get quarter mile times under 12.5 stock - not sure why this one felt slower than your 13 second cobra. Maybe it really was a bad apple - you certain it was an '03? If you do get one, looking at your previous cars you will probably want to fatten the rear tires and take the resonators out - even if you leave the mufflers it gives it more of the sound you will like. Off topic as to your question but I wanted to get you pointed in the right direction. Try another CL if you can get access.

Definitely is an '03. I went back and looked again as the dealership isn't far from me. I also took it out once again, this time turned off the ESP and laid into it from a dead stop and it barely even squealed a tire. I think this car is in bad shape as the salesman at another dealership told me these things like to fry tires like its free.

Makes me feel better, because I want that ever so american tire frying capability, just want it quieter this time around

That could be it - it will knock you down to about 350hp if the turbo is not kicking in. I would agree moving up the CL65 would blow you away but with your choice of cars in the past the 600 may not be sporty enough for you.

I've also had 2 1994 Impala SS's and a Denali and Hummer ever since, i wanted back in to the car realm for a second vehicle, so last month i picked up a 2004 CL55 AMG and its been AWESOME!! I've had to spend a few bucks on little things, but because it's a MB little things cost a lot. I would reccommend you go with a 2004 vs the 03, only for the improvements in the COMAND electronics. You get a single DVD Nav versus all the CD's, it's Fiber-optic, can go bluetooth with a single pigtail ($300) versus having to had the phone kit previously wired in, and MP3 compatible (03's may have this but i don't think so). Anyways, just a few of the things you get with an '04. Oh, and put her in sport or manual mode with ESP off and make sure nothing is around you because your goign to get squirley loose in whichever way that baby wants to go. Power surpasses all!! good luck!
