2005 CL65 Wheel Question

I'm thinking of replacing my current 360 Forged 3 piece wheels with ADV-1 one piece forged wheels. I want to go as wide as possible without causing any issues such as rubbing or brake problems. My current setup is: front 9" wide 255-35/20 and rear 10" wide 285-30/20. What is the widest 20" wheel and tire size a 2005 CL65 can take? Thank you in advance to anyone who responds.

What's up Larry! You ever thought of going 19's? You could probably get away with a 305 in 19's.

Good idea! I really want wider tires so maybe 19's are the way to go. Thanks for the tip. I really want to confirm that this will not be a problem however and I don't know who to talk to. I don't trust guys at wheel shops because I don't think they really know my (our cars) that well?

Need some expert advice.

I am going to get a new set of one piece forged wheels made my a company called ADV-1. Check out their website ( I don't want to post the website out of respect of the sponsor advertisers). Just do a google search for ADV-1 Wheels. The one piece forged look great. Anyway I need help with fitment please. I want to go wider then my current 285's and I'm thinking 295's. I currently have 285/35-20's but I'm afraid I will have rubbing issues any wider. I just don't know? If I dropped down to 295/35-19 do you guys think that would help or should I stay with 20's. Please help ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Could you explain a bit more as why 19" would be better (in term of rubbing) when compared to 20"? For example 305/30/19 should be [relatively] the same as 305/25/20, shouldn't it? Thanks in advance for the explaination.

Hey Mark. Happy New Year. Actually I know the place very well and it is called Elite Roads now. I deal with a guy named D.J. many times. He has been extremely helpful to me in the past. I agree that if one needs a commercial shop to get wheels in South Florida then Elite Roads is the only place to go. I live in Plantation. If you want, come take a look at my wheels. Give me a call anytime. I will text you tomorrow so you can have my number. I don't want to post it on a public forum.

Actually the overall diameter is virtually identical so technically you could run either tire.

First off I'm not sure if 305's will fit without rubbing. I have read many posts in the past that people have tried putting a much wider tire then what comes stock only to have major rubbing issues. For some reason I remember someone telling me that a 285 is the widest I should go on a CL 215 chassis and be safe. I wanted 19" wheels because to go with a 25 aspect ratio is just way too thin for my car IMO. I need a little meat on the tire so it doesn't feel like I'm riding on a rim without a tire. I'm happy to stay 20" if someone here has tested the waters and tells me it is safe.

That makes more sense. So if 305 works with 19", it should work with 20". 285/30/20 and 305/25/20 should have the same thickness (well, pretty close) of rubber although the latter has wider stance.

If you had a 55, you would probably be safe with 305 as I see a person here with that setup. A 65 probably cannot cope with 305 unless you do some mods and fender rolls.

I think the cl55 and cl65 should have the same dimension?? So if you are telling me you know a guy with 305 with a CL55 then it should work for me. Can you talk to the guy and find out what size he is running and if he ever had problems. Thanks in advance.

I think the 55 can get wider rear tire than the 65. If you check you can see the offset is different between 55 and 65. You can check with Patentmat about the 305 setup on his 2004 CL55. He said he had no rubbings. One of his posts is here. He is selling the car/wheels - check his signature

I am selling my CL55 and hopefully upgrading to a CL65, so I have checked this out, and I don't think my 10.5 inch wide (305/25/20) wheels will fit. I'm actually parting with them (well trying to) in the classifieds section now. Apparently, the the offset of the CL65 is different enough that I agree that the 305s probably won't work, either on 19s or 20s.

What do you think about 295/35-19 or 295/30-20's?
