Just a quick question, I'm looking to become a AMG owner. When I go look at e55 and cl55's and find one I want, should I ask that the car me taken to a MB dealer(if not at one) and have the rodeo program run and a through inspection? I assume that could save me some immediate headaches?
Take it to a shop (dealer or Mercedes specific independent) with a STAR/SDS machine. They can pull the ABC suspension codes (a regular OBDII scanner like at Autozone can't). It will tell you if there are suspension codes that have been thrown, like leaking valve blocks, etc. A pre-purchase inspection in general is not a bad idea.

You must have been sitting behind an empty passenger seat, because when the front seats are occupied, the CL back seat is useless for all but the smallest children.
Want to see a real back seat? Look in a W220.
It is true that there is a certain irony in someone who drives MBZ's previous generation, entry-level sedan (the C-Class--albeit the AMG version) critiquing the CL. I appreciate the jab
. That said, maybe you can put passengers #2 and #3 in that big CL trunk, because they certainly are not fitting in that CL back seat unless they are very small. Even my plebian C-Class can transport three six footers comfortably.........QUOTE]
I am 6 feet 200lb i am very confy in the back of my nephews CL65. It is roomier than my C320 ever was.

Sorry, but that is complete
. Maybe you are a 7 footer...or you like to roll with the seat all the way back.... but an average adult can sit behind another average adult in a CL without problems. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

I am surprised my car isn't on the auction list. I traded it in back in April 2010. The dealership held onto it until early August. They dropped the price down to $39,995 before sending it to auction (far below my trade-in value...plus I got the sales tax credit on the trade). My car was bought by Exotic Motors in Chicago...here it is on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...t_33519wt_1165
I can't believe they put a pin-stripe on it...yuck...they probably did that to try to cover up a crack the car had on the left front fender...![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
I loved the CL65. But I have to admit that there were certain aspects of the car that were really showing its age. The W215 was essentially designed back in 1999 when it first came out in Europe. I really didn't feel like putting more money (either maintenance of updating some of the aging aspects) into a car that seems to never stop depreciating like an anvil. I am notorious for catching the "I need something new" bug. I also wanted something that felt a little bit lighter and could handle little more crisply.

When Top Gear were in the States testing they included the Cadillac, I was
very impressed and nearly booked a test drive until I found out they were
only available in left hand drive. I was hoping you would tell us what you think ,not an MB but anything that's interesting is worth talking about.
Have you done quarter mile yet.

My wife's W204 C class is comfortable to sit in the back with her driving, and she's 5'8". If I were in the back seat, I'd rather be in the C class than the CL, I'm pretty sure.
I honestly am not sure where the room goes, because the CL is huge outside (particularly noticeable when parking or maneuvering city streets) but feels very "cozy" inside.

My brother is 6'2" and I'm 5'8". When he was driving and I was behind him, I technically fit, but I couldn't move my feet, which were completely under his seat. My knees were basically touching his seat. I asked him to move the seat forward and he said he couldn't.

Read the quote by i_am_amused...he says that the back seat is "basically useless for all but the smallest of children". That doesn't sound like the situation you were in with an above average 6'2" driver (average height of an American male is 5'10"). Yes, a CL doesn't have the rear seating room of an S-Class...but what coupe does??? When I think "useless" back seats, I think Nissan GT-R or Aston Martin DB9. The CL's back seat is far from useless.

This kid has been making the exact same kinda posts for at least a year and a half.
He's just a kid with a financed to the hilt inventory peddling as many auction cars as he can.
well... when he's not snorting coke off the hoods of the cars that is.

And here you have the crux of the reason not a CL for everyone. Of course, I'm looking for one now (but it won't have anywhere near 85k on it). And I already own an S. But it would be a 4th car, after the Audi wagon, S sedan and M convertible. Why, just because -- and it's a damned nice car. Big boy player mobile. Not for kids.
But they all turn into dogs when people cannot afford the maintenance, or when they sit in dealer inventory. Everyone knows the top of the line Mercedes don't "sit" well -- this has been true since the 560SEC, and probably a lot longer. No hunk of metal with petroleum based (plastic and rubber) moving parts CAN sit well -- the parts get brittle, fluids leak everywhere, etc., etc. We all know that drill.
So you start with a select target clientele to begin with (the 4th luxury car crowd who can afford the maintenance), who are also smart enough not to buy a high mileage car (unless it comes with a brilliant service history), which has had a couple of owners and been "sitting" off the maintenance grid for 6 or 8 months. That's a tough sell, Bro. Good luck.

Leasing does not negate or even minimize the substantial depreciation of this or any other highline AMG product as the residual value reflects the loss in value of the car. You can pay now or you can pay later, but rest assured, you will pay regardless of buying or leasing.

No one is debating that the S class has a big back seat..bigger than most luxury sedans this side of a Maybach or limo. The CL65 is a coupe. It has a decent back seat for coupe. Probably the only luxury coupe with a bigger back seat is the Bentley Continental, and it isn't that much bigger. The CL65's back seat room compares favorably to a smaller sedan. Coupes are less practical which makes them somewhat less desirable to the masses.

a W215 is as big as a W220, yet the back seat is far from "decent" as you claim. It's rather indecent, being so obscenely small. You're right, it would compare favorably to a "smaller sedan", like a C-class, which itself has an almost useless back seat.

I've had S classes and CL has nowhere same room in back.
Not many cars do.
Compared to the C class and maybe even E class the CL as similar room.
I am 6'4" long legs and always liked the seat to go back all the way on S class but you are looking sideways out the back window.
I love pillarlessnes of the CL, it was the main reason for buying it over S class, I can look out the side of the car through the front side window and when avg size people get in and out of the back I can lower the rear side window to make it pretty easy to get in and out and they can actually fit behind me.
I'm not very comfy, but it is doable and I would not be comfy in C class or E class either.
I don't think there is another 2 door coupe that is as 4 passenger friendly as the CL.

I think it's a fantastic car especially given it's value as a used car. In 2005 it was the most powerful production car/coupe in the world! With some minor tuning (Less than $3K) you can have it up to 850 ft/lb tq and 750 HP, all for under $40K!
It's my next car for sure. (I have an E55 now.) That or an S65. (I have 3 wonderful kids.).
Great car, people are just missing out.
My $.02.
Keep the faith, people are missing out!

@AlexTaylor29: My $.02, with 3 wonderful kids, get the S65. Wonderful kids is the reason for S's over CL's. I carefully considered both and opted for the S. What can I say, grown [family] man style. Now when I see CL's, I'm like "One day I'll get one. I'm glad I didn't do it then. Wife, 2 kids, plus Grandma roll comfy on long trips." In the used market, they're all steals if you get the right one (single owner, grown-up car, no racing, no mods, no pets, no paint, no stories, etc.).

It's like anything, do your homework if your looking for one.
It's a steal for the same engine and tranny as the Maybachs and newer cl and S models..without taking the depreciation hit.
It's a weekend car and it gets my heart pumping everytime I start it it up on the weekends, and gun it.. the power is addicting and you will want more. The ABC and dynamic seats do there jobs in the corners.
The kids love it too. I have one backup baby seat in the back. No issues with the 9 yrs old in back or my friends that have sat in the back. Wife is a bit upset it's not a 4 door but it's too late, the deed is done; at least I didn't get a porsche or a two seater. Grandma can ride in the best mini van..
Awesome Coupe. Not sure if I would take the depreciation hit on a new CL though.. I probably could lease one but what more will it give me other then it being newer? Is the new one better by that much? Probably not.

Ditto. I'm a AMG newbie and the 2nd Owner of a primo mint 2005 CL65..60k miles for $35k. So far no issues. Paint chips, so what, touch em up. Oil Low light, hey, it's an AMG, if you go fast, it burns a bit.. fill it up to recommended.
