Looking for good dragstrip tire for stock wheels
Wondering if anyone knows of a good drag strip tire for the stock wheels. I ordered some 305/35/19 Mickey Thompson ET radials but I can see they will be too wide. Is everyone switching to 18's for the drag strip. I am not really a fan of that as I don't want to switch my rims each time I go to the strip and I like to race cars on the street occasionally. I remember seeing a thread about someone widening the wheel but I swear even if I widened it I don't think it would fit.

Yeah thats a good all around tire but I am looking for something thats no compromise all race. They do have a good size selection. Personally though I think that tread pattern is ugly and I have seen it wear funny on some cars.

The width isn't your problem. I run a 305 on the rear as well on 20" wheels and don't rub. Your tire height is almost 1" taller than factory. That's why you're rubbing.

Oh. I didn't realize these where going on the factory 9.5" wheels. You don't have enough rim nor the proper offset to pull this off. Sorry.

I'm with Shardul on Nitto Invos or Toyo Proxes T1Rs. If you want to go to the next step, some people I know of have run street legal drag radials as street tires such as Nitto NT555Rs or Toyo Proxes TQs. You will trade straight traction for lateral traction with street legal drags. You also would need to put some heat in the drags for best performance. You might intimidate a few potential street runs if you sit at a red light and burn off your drags to get some heat in them before you launch on the green light.
Keep in mind, as soon as the weather in Minneapolis drops, your soft compound tires will be useless.
I should have added, my experience has been that aggressive camber and soft compound tires equals uneven tread wear and being directional and staggered, rotation is no easy feat. I have had tires dismounted and moved to the other side.

Stock wheels with Mickey Thompson ET drag radials. 305/35/19. Wheel goes right to the edge of fender so I probably wont drive it lowered to much...or really at all for a while. Super happy though.

Did you check the Nitto NTO5 Race tires in 19? I ran M/T 18`s or hoosier 17 s on CLK wheels.

One of my wheels is closer then the other so I swapped left to right and guess what. The offset is different on the wheels. One is a 60 and the other is a 40. What gives. Did they switch wheels in different years or something? Does anyone have a 60 they want to trade a 40 for. Otherwise the wheels fit perfect.

Hey take some pics I'm curious to see, I'm glad to hear that you went ahead and mounted them since you already had them. I don't know about the safety, but maybe the narrower wheel pulls the sidewalls in a bit to avoid rubbing. It sounds as if you have a wheel from something other than a CL65. Maybe its a CL55 or CLS55 wheel. They may have been offered in different offsets and I think the CLS55 had an optional 10" wide rears. Rear offsets on the CL65 are 60 and 46 up front on the 8.5" wheel. If your wheels are closer to silver they could be from another model.

The color seems the same for sure and the width is labeled 9.5 on both. Its really pretty frustrating though that a wheel is different. In all honesty I also found a front to be different as I noticed the lugs on the front wheel are different lengths. I am going to the strip this weekend for the last outing so I will have some runs.
