Until a CL65 pops up, this should keep me entertained

I was browsing through rennlist classifieds yesterday, and stumbled across this 2003 Porsche Turbo. Only 75k miles, Arena Red over grey, X50 performance package, 6-speed manual transmission (which I have been yearning for quite a while--I'm just tired of automatics), GT2 body parts, carbon ceramic brakes, navigation, all the toys. I couldn't resist. Sorry CL65 but I'm not buying one until I find one in a color--black just isn't going to cut it for me. This Turbo should be quite fun to drive in the Silver State Classic later this year. I may even take it to One Lap next year (if I haven't bought something better by then).

Should be a fun car with a Eurocharged tune. Supposedly these can get quite close to the 600hp mark with not a whole lot of work. Just a couple pictures from the seller's ad. Can't wait for it to show up--the two week wait for shipping is going to kill me.

Awesome. Do you know what he's done to it?

I'll have to spend some time researching parts. My initial priority is installing euro model GT3 seats, 4 point harnesses, and a roll bar. Luckily, you maintain the functionality of the regular seatbelts in addition to the harnesses.

I'd like to get it to the drag strip at some point soon. Bandimere Speedway is only an hour drive from Fort Collins. I've heard it should do somewhere in the 11's? Somebody said 11.2 another person said 11.9. It would be a blast to race against my father's S65 (515whp and 740wtq thanks to Renntech).

do your research before modding this car. to say its an expensive hobby is a major understatement. a simple tune and exhaust will lunch the oem clutch in short order. 2000$ for the smallest upgraded clutch plus approx 12 hrs labor @ 100 to 120$ per hr.

oem clutch slave and accumulator , 2nd gear pop out, are a couple known failures. if you are still awd you must keep the tire diameter within 4% and it limits the tires you can buy. going rwd helps.

love the color and the gt2 touches. bring it up to timmayfest!

(un?)Fortunately, I'm no noob to Beetles. I know the previous owner had the slave cylinder replaced (ironically, I just had the same job done on my cup car). I will buy an upgraded clutch. One of my coworkers has an e85 tuned 997 Turbo that's pushing 750. He's having boost issues in fifth, so we don't have any good drag times for his car yet.

Also, I have my own shop, so labour is free!

As for the rwd....Simply put: YES! But, I'll go tootle around for a while with AWD before I convert it.

Love your yellow TT, first one I've seen that truly looks good in that color. What wheels are you using?

Awesome that you are aware of the potential issues. Going in with eyes open is were many fail to do. Forge star cf5 wheels in gt2 figment.

high mileage well used car runs 35k$ to low mileage 1 owner fetching 55k$. last yr vert can bring 60K$ and the coveted gt2 still commands 70K$ and up

power range is 450 bhp and fully modded cars can see 1000rwhp. a friend of mine has a 1150 rwhp and another has 1288rwhp but these cars are in a league of their own. easily can see 700 rwhp on stock internals and 900 with rods, head bolts and full bolt ons e85 and bigger turbos

I live in Fort Collins Colorado, which is an hour north of Denver.

Timmayfest sounds like a blast. I would come this year, but unfortunately, I have a NASA time trials event May 31 through June 1st in Kansas. It would be a bit hectic trying to drive out to Ohio right after. I'm always game for a roadtrip, so let me know if there are some other events later this year. Actually, let me find out if and when there's a NASA race at Mid Ohio. That would work out perfectly.

I joined up on 6speedonline. I have yet to post there, but my username is the same.

Cheers
Ricky

thanks for the info

wow these cars are beasts and they probably weight 1000 pounds less than the CLs..

a little more pricey than the CL65 but definitely something to collect in the garage

More expensive? That depends if the CL has ABC failure or not Better be careful how loud I say that, my 600 might feel the vibes...

I'm going to corner balance the new Beetle when it get's here, so I'll know for sure then, but most people say they're just under the 3500lb mark--something ranging from 3410-3495lbs. So, yes about a half ton less than the Mercedes. For as small as these Turbo Porsches are, they sure do weigh a lot. Gotta love AWD systems [sarcasm]. Fortunately for the CL, 740lbs worth of torque doesn't care if you weigh two ounces or six tons, it will hurtle you right along regardless.

Sounds like a plan! This right here yes? http://wannagofast.com/clayton.php

1/2 Mile would be great. I used to do a lot of quarter mile stuff, but just lost interest a bit. 1/4 mile is great an all, but the longer the faster--and faster is always more fun.

808rwhp and 4 sec from 60-130? That sounds like a real ride. Do you know what he runs in the quarter?
