Headers, Throttle Bodys & Camshafts

I had specific questions regarding headers, throttle body and camshafts. Let me preface that I have done many mods to my CL55, but I am still very much of a newbie and learning every step of the way. I don't race the car, just love modding it and having something powerful and unique. In addition to the mods already in my signature, I'm looking next into:

1) Headers
Kleemann mid range headers (+40bhp)
2)Throttle Body
Kleemann 80mm (+30bhp)
3) Camshaft
Kleemann (+15bhp, beneficial above 4k RPM)

The above was recommended, along w/ the estimated power gains to expect.

Headers
  • Forgetting about cost, which header would you suggest and why?
  • Why do you think I was recommended mid length vs. long?
Throttle Body
  • What exactly does a throttle body do?
  • Is there a difference in 80mm vs.82mm in terms of performance as I saw that Renntech has one as well?
  • Forgetting about costs, what are the recs for which type (short, mid, long, etc.) and brand (MBH, Renntech, etc.) throttle body to use and why?
  • Will I still be able to keep/use my Renntech CF airbox with a larger throttle body?
Camshaft
  • No idea what these do and what the options are?
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience.

I had Kleemann cams on my E55, I was happy with them. Although they don't add tons of hp, they change the dynamics a bit. They cut a little low end torque (not really a problem IMO) and allow the car to pull longer into higher rpms.

They change the idle lope a bit, but no surging and it certainly doesn't sound wild.

So should the Cams be the last thing to play w/ or at all?

The common opinion is that cams are done last. You would certainly do the headers first; no discussion there.

Any thought on MBH vs. Kleemann?

What about throttle body?

Thanks

MBH vs. Kleeemann? I had Kleemann's on mine, but that was long before there were so many other options. I had no complaints, but I think full long tube headers is the way to go.

Throttle bodies will all be about the same (another Bosch TB of a larger diameter). IIRC, Kleemann did an 80mm & Renntech had a 82mm, but I can't really remember off the top of my head. No real difference in quality among any of the manufacturers.

Our 06 CL55's are twins. Last month on went: Eurocharged (EC) blower pulley, EC tune, EC I/C, Bosche 10 I/C pump, Beltwrap kit, and K&N airfilters. To say beastly is almost an understatement: Estimating + or - 560 chp. Next: EC midlength headers and Quiafe LSD. Not too sure about adding a 80 or 82 mm TB. When to swap in 550 injectors and if to separate the engine and I/C cooling.

I think I'm leaning towards MBH for LTH, but really want more feedback from people who have direct experience.

I'm still unsure about throttle body, who to use?

I would add long tubes and get the most power out of the exhaust. Booasted webngines love free flowing exhaust. Cams are not a good bang for the buck on our engines. Just my opionion based on the limited lift, duration, HD valve springs and the tight lobe seperation offered on them.

Add LT`s, smaller upper pulley , 3000 stall and you will have "insane mode" going on!
