I'll be staying at the WoodSpring Suites in Baytown, I'll hopefully arrive by Thursday night! It's snowing in Chicago today and tomorrow, so my goal is to leave Thursday morning and do my best to make the 1000 mile drive in one piece! I'll see you all soon, let's all grab dinner and drive a bit!

Looks like I'm in the same boat. Got some bad news, it seems my clutch packs have finally glazed over and are throwing slip codes in first at 700rpm. I'd normally just head down anyway and take the bike, but that's in the shop too for recall work! If anyone knows anyone looking for a free 4 day VIP pass to TX2K, let me know!
Building the trans was on my agenda anyway, but I have worse news. Speedriven was trying to hunt down the burning oil source on decel, and they found oil around the passenger side turbo wheel. While this might have meant a poorly manufactured billet turbo, it seemed to have no play and was spinning freely. So they dropped a camera down the plug holes, and it looks like I got some fairly significant scoring on my cylinder sleeves, which could totally be the blue smoke culprit. Good news is there's no burning coolant, so I'm confident in ruling out a cracked sleeve, but at worst I might be looking at a junkyard shortblock. At best, Speedriven pulls off the passenger cylinder head and its just the valve guides and seals pulling in oil. I'll keep you all updated on just how f**ked this old CL is .
On the bright side, maybe it's time to get creative. I wonder how much a brabus 6.3L m275 block would cost...

Quick update - Bottom end is healthy, photographs to come. Regardless, Speedriven sent the turbo with the oil buildup back for an inspection anyway. A head rebuild is in order, and I'm thinking a bit of a port and polish might free up 15-20whp.

Initially, our biggest concern was that the camera spotted what looked like excess scoring on the cylinder walls. There was never really a compression issue, just burning oil, and they thought damaged sleeves might be the culprit. Speedriven took off the passenger bank head entirely to examine the sleeves in full light. I lucked out and it seems the sleeves are fairly healthy for the mileage and the hard driving.

Heads are off and transmission is out. Engine will be out in a few weeks for reassembly. Everything looks fairly healthy considering the lifetime of hard driving this car has been under!
Photography skills need work though.

RETURN
Reviving a VERY dead thread to announce:
She is alive
She is running entirely on Texas E85
She is going to TX2K22
And we will hit 200MPH in the half mile.
More to come in March.

we will be racing on a set of 10 inch weld beadlocks. the new supra has the same fitment so wheels got super easy to order on 295x30 toyo r888r's. my research has led me to believe they have the right compound for a 200mph run.

car runs fine as is, but it's tuned on 112 octane race fuel and not texas e85 which is closer to an e70 108 octane. taking the car to eurocharged austin and going to have jerry give it a new dyno-tuned map for pump e85. the goal is to drive to the event, do 200, and drive home. throwing a bunch of ice bags and water wetter in the IC tank. will post results here and in video on youtube.

We'll be competing in street car class from both a dig and a roll. RaceHorse hit 200 in the 1.5mile way back in 2015, on 93 pump i'm pretty sure. If I'm still making the 630whp on a Speedriven tune there is no question that I can hit 200 and 160 in the standing mile. Roll racing might prove different but the dyno will tell.

Did you ever run the car in Texas? If so share the results good or bad. I ran my car with MS109 at the time when I did the mile and a half. No disrespect, but I think matching those speeds with your setup would be a challenge. Either way, glad your still enjoying your car.
