Hello MBWorld,
I figure this is as good a time as any to introduce myself. My name is Jason, and I live in St. Paul, Minnesota. As of March 27th, 2015, I am the proud new owner of Kamil's Speedriven tuned CL600.
After a 400 mile roadtrip from Speedriven's shop in Chicago to the cities, I realized just how easy it is to speed in a 600. The ride is so smooth that 120mph might as well be 60. Not that I ever broke the speed limit anyway
Getting the car registered on Monday (V12TT, SPDRIVN, LOL GTR, etc for a vanity plate?) and then i'll take it in for detailing - I'll post some pretty pictures then. Meanwhile, I threw together a quick video of the car up on the lift at Speedriven
I hope to take this car in the right direction, I've made a small list of things I plan on getting done.
1. Speedriven Billet Turbos
2. Speedriven Transmision Upgrade
3. Custom high flow mesh grill in gloss black.
4. Comand delete - Replace the system with Android Auto
5. Hardwire in my Valentine V1
and more to come...
I'll be at cars & coffee MN on April 4th, if anyone is interested in meeting up. Also, I'll be at Boost for Boobies on May 2nd. I'll get the thing up on the DynoJet there, pull some real numbers!
Hopefully all should go well with the car and its future, hoping to claim the title of the fastest Benz in MN, if I'm not already there!
Side note - I might also have the title for the youngest V12TT owner - I turned 18 in December. Hopefully I won't pull a teenager and wrap the car around a tree
Put away around $10k for an emergency repair fund before you start throwing mods at the car. You have a $100k+ car with a serious appetite for maintenance and repairs. Don't thnk for a minute you will have the ownership costs of any other car you've ever owned. This one is crazy expensive to own.
Good luck Jason, we will get the little bugs worked out ASAP. How are ppl out in MN liking it? Did you get a chance to get on it a bit? (other than the trip home)

Update 1:
Just got back into the Twin Cities, made it in one peice. The front grille, however, didn't. That's cheap Chinese plastic for you.
Airflow's pretty good now though. OEM is probably going on for now though, at least for C&C.
Got me a nice fat warning, too, from the cops on the way up. The tails and tint were just a little too dark for their taste. Kamil says he's seen darker OEM ones. Next time I'll just tell the cops they're OEM. No way they could tell anyway.
Oh well. Gonna get the car detailed in a bit, more photos to come!

Change out the intake for a cold air version if Kamil did not do so already. The spider intake just sucks in hot air. Do a quick search for some cheap alternatives to a much better intake.
Second pic did not show. Car looks good. I don't get how the cops will tell you the tails are dark if they are slightly faded with 2 light coats of paint. I guess they were just hating on you since you are 18 and driving a car like that.
I hope they leave you alone and you get to keep the car as is.
You can try out the single slat grille but all those e bay grilles are not that great. I loved the one that was badgeless on the car, but as you saw the quality of that grille is just not there.
Just called Automotive Concepts MN - hopefully they can fabricate something for me. I picked up a single slat front grille with the frame just now, I'll see what they can do with that for me. As for Maintenance, I should have that covered financially. If no major expenses come up, I plan on finishing the build up at the end of summer.
As far as interest goes, I get looks and waves from tons of people. Car sounds crazy good from the outside. Some guy in a Talon TSI tried pulling on me on Saturday. Wasn't even a fair race. He pulled up at the next light to tell me how insane it sounded, then took a picture. This is the most fun I've ever had. Can't do this stuff in a stock Acura!
Congrats Jason! kamil made that already potent CL600 a Corvette slaying monster. Please use great care driving it. Yours and others safety are paramount. Enjoy
I'm not sure but Jason if you will decide to sell the car please don't post it even if its in a year or two but let me know first. I might want to buy it back. No Joke. I looked around for other options and bought the Viper and have a low 9second Z06 there is just something about that Benz that makes me want it back. LOL
I'm super happy that a member owns the car and is taking the steps to go further. I can't wait to see where this car is in a few months.

That car looks so tight murdered out like that. I wouldn't mind picking one of those up if a nice opportunity presented itself. I've owned two highly modded Supra's , I regret selling both as the value on them continues to climb. To me, the CL has the same "timeless" lines. It's cool when a car can age that much and still be just as much of a jaw dropper as when it was new. Anyway, nice car congrats.
Hello! Got another update for you all. I wasn't able to get a detailing session in before C&C, but a soap up and hose down has her looking sharp.
also an update on the front grille: I managed to get a good deal on Asanti's stainless steel mesh set in chrome. Going in for a powder coating in gloss black as soon as the set arrives. It's too late to get it in for C&C, but it's going to look sharp for next month. Here's a stock photo:

Are you on highest setting in the pics? Drop it low J looks better. I miss that sound
Happy to see you are taking care of it so well. This car does have the potential to become the fastest CL600 out there it just needs a good weather and a sticky track.

Nothing like buying a used CL/SL and your first lesson in the stupid maintenance the hydraulic ABC like a bad strut/valve block. If it is the case take care of it first before you go crazy and have fun with the car, I'm sure you'll enjoy it
Hey Jason, sorry you won't have the fastest. Mine dynoed 619 WHP last year and I am going to try and make new manifolds this year and put real turbos on. You should stop by my shop sometime. It's Northeast Minneapolis. I was thinking about trying to go to cars and coffee but not really my thing. Those old timers are not too into racing. I also got a 87 300 SDL diesel that I swapped in a OM606 that would give you a run for your money. Cool car though. I wouldnt mind checking it out. Let me know if you are ever in the area.

Otherwise, the Benz did great at C&C, for the few that were there. An E63, a CLS63, a 2015 C-Class showed up besides me. The chrome single-fin doesn't look too bad, it just arrived on too short notice to get it painted. It's only temporary anyway.
Shame she got all the attention.
