CL55 SYSTEM INSTALL, CUSTOM BOX 2 12" RE AUDIO SXXV2'S DOUBLE DIN NAV... LOTS OF PICS
Double Din Android 4.4.4 Navi Unit (I import these from china)
2 12" RE Audio SXXv2 Subwoofers (I am a dealer of their woofers)
Custom box built by me (bandpass 1:1:1 ratio)
Custom trunk paneling (by me)
MT Everest 10k mono amplifier (from RE Audio)
Stock Alternator
Diehard AGM Battery
0 Gauge true copper wire from + and - of battery to amp
Custom AMG logo (laser etched in house)
3/4" Plexi Glass for face of box
2 RE Audio 6.5" XXX Components w/crossovers (1 per door)
1 RE Audio 90.4 4CH Amplifier for mids
Dynamat in doors, rear deck, rear seat and side pillars
Generic backup camera (to be replaced)
LED's in box.
If I forgot something that you see in the pics let me know and ill explain what it is.
ALL installation and design work was performed by myself with the help of a friend.
Thanks, hope you guys like it if anyone wants to hear it let me know. I have almost no rattle since the box is ported into my rear deck through the original subwoofer port and the box is a bandpass which means the drivers are not firing into the trunk.
Port was later changed from round to square due to port turbulence above 34ms, to eliminate port noise, both pic's are included.
Thanks, hope you all like it.

Very nicely done.
So these android 4.4.4 things that I see on eBay are actually legit?
If you replace the stock head unit with one of these and leave all other audio components in the car the same, will the system sound as good as stock? Better? Or worse?
I ask because this headunit looks factory but we get all the good iPhone hookups and stuff.
Out side of this unit, all I've found are the Dension gateway 500 and 500s. Are you familiar with these products?
What city/state are you in?
Soooo many questions lol. Thank you!

They are not all the same I am a supplier for these and before I found a good oem it took loosing some money.
If you are going to by from ebay make sure that it is quad core and you can return it, with return shipping on them. It's very expensive to ship back to china.
With the factory equipment they sound the same as stock, no better no worse. If you have a latter unit you will lose the factory amp since that is only a fiber link for all tranmission, in ehich case they soind worse imho. It is highly recommended to at least add a 4 channel amp and some good components no matter what system you have.
The only real con is that you lose the factory clock adjustments, factory steering wheel volume controls still work. No can bus error codes weird things like that.
I am in Los Angeles California.

I'm confused about losing the factory amp... Can you please clarify what scenario would cause this?
When you say a latter unit, which or what are you referring to?
I'm new to this stuff.
Thanks again!
In some 2003 and below cars the navi does not need this extension cable.
Hopefully that makes it somewhat clear but it is hard to explain until you see all the components involved.

Ok thank you I think I got it... In 2004 and up w215 and w220, if using this head unit, you lose factory amp.
I'm glad I know that now, but man that's disappointing lol
Saw your YouTube clips by the way... I'll be in la later this month. Would be great to hear and see in person. I'll reach out when I know the dates and what not if that's cool with you.
Much appreciated!

Sure let me know when your around, you can have a listen.
My intentions are not to sell systems, just to show others that you don't need to be scared of installing a custom system in a high line car nor do you have to worry about it looking like crap when its all said and done.
I tether my unlimited T-Mobile plan to the cars headunit since it has wifi built in and download all kinds of games and apps on my stereo.
My favorite being DASH COMMAND and TORQUE which when used with my cheap bluetooth OBD2 dongle can data log my cars performance, vitals and engine codes. its pretty neat.
I haven't had the rear deck of my car apart yet so your pics are nice to see. My plan is a rear deck mounted FI IB312 sub, but obviously I have concerns about the deck rattling when I mount a 33# sub in it with 600 watts RMS pushing it. I plan to keep the window shade and rear headrests in the deck but the small speakers will go away.

This is the OBD2 I am using

There is a delay, which is because of the refresh rates our ECU's have but overall it works fine I would estimate about a 1.5 second delay....for example if you decelerate to 0mph it would take 1.5 seconds for it to display 0

I can turn off the nav using the STAR system and then you will be able to adjust the time from the steering wheel. feel free the hit me up. Im in LA as well and working on a similar setup.

Maybe I'll try an OBD2 splitter and keep the Interceptor gauge as well as add a digital dash to the stereo. I know dataloging with my laptop, the Aeroforce gauge, or with the STAR the delay is not perceptible so I'm guessing it is more the wireless connection and software that is causing the delay you mentioned That is a bummer as the amount of data showing in your pics would be awesome to have all the time in real time.

The fastest refresh rate is with the tahoe, then the Ferrari and last the CL
Also my GL450 is faster than the CL as well.
The data in my pictures actually refreshes pretty quickly I'll try to post of a video for all of you to see.
I for got the size of the factory CL woofer opening but if I remember clearly it was 10.some odd inches, and I think the smallest size the FI IB's come in are 12" just food for thought in that regard as well.
Are you going for SQ (Sound Quality) or SPL, or a little of both?
Have you looked into a JL Audio 10TW3-D4 in a small .5 cu.ft. box? You would still have a lot of trunk space left. Another option.
Even with a 3 cu.ft. box in mine I still have sufficient trunk space left in my opinion.
See the attached pic.

That is a 3" round port which I then changed to a rectangular port, The reason I changed this port is because it wasn't sufficient for the air movement and you could hear the air turbulence, even though it was a beveled edge on both ends of the port . All the air is brought up and past my rear deck and sun shade, which results in fantastic SQ and no rattle.
If you look at the 1st pic you will see that curved area where the sun shade rests also the original subwoofer bracket clips into the rear deck so if you enlarge the hole you can not put it back which I'm sure you already accounted for.
Just trying to help you out, not sway you in another direction, I have done many systems in many high end cars and the worst thing is rattles, so try the best you can to keep the moving air from any parts prone to vibration, also remember to make sure that said air is not hitting any sharp corners or edges because you will hear the turbulence.

1) Which head unit do you recommend? Price?
2) Did you replace the wiring to the doors?
3) Which cross over did you use? Is it a 2way or 3way?
4) What are the speaker sizes for the doors? Did you use or leave off the passive crossover?
Thanks in advance for any information.

The adapter in the link below allows you to use any double din head unit. Asking what brand and price people recommend is kind of like asking them what is the best car for you. There are so many choices you have to figure out what is best for you. The adapter below opens up your options. The unit the OP installed is great for the factory look, fit, and price. but I have no knowledge of it's SQ or reliability, but he probably could answer those questions. I'm going to use a Pioneer AVIC4100NEX. Basically the same head unit as their top of the line double din minus the navigation for a lot less money. 7" screen, all the bells and whistles, and I like the multi band equalizer you get with these Pioneer decks compared to a lot of the competition. Giving up navigation is not an issue since the head unit will mirror link with your phone for navigation. Alpine has some really nice double dins on the market right now too.

Thanks for the response, I was specifically looking for the manufacturer of the android head unit the OP used. I really want to retain the factory look if at all possible.
