Just got an email from Birds, the limited slip w215 Quaife differential is out of production (Qdf29b). This went in cl65's (some), cl55's, cl600's, and cl500's.

Hope you got one if you needed it!

If you have one, I want it

Group buy?
Dunno if they would even run another batch but it may be worth a call to see if they’d do another run if we had several others interested…

I’d buy one… now we’re at 2

anyone else???

We'll probably need to crosspost on the non amg w215 forum to hope to hit 5 units. TBH, I had already started to talk to another manufacturer for a one-off since I didn't expect the re-run threshold to be that low.

I have one of these quaife units installed in my other CL (cl55), and it made the car significantly faster and more entertaining. Fantastic value, and the install was easy enough... Remove one axle shaft from the diff, remove back cover, pull old diff out, swap factory ring gear to new quaife unit, reinstall with a new bearing or race (iirc), reinstall in reverse order.

I'll make a forum post about this specifically, I think total cost last time I bought was 1700 incl shipping/import. By FAR the best value mod I've done.

I sent you a private message and left you my phone number. Forgot to give you my email…

Let’s make this happen!

Nice! Please put your name on the thread on this forum titled "w215 Quaife (QDF29B) LSD new production run @ 5 units of demand" as well as sending me your email address in a PM (so I can forward to Birds once we hit 5 people).

Missing 2 of the 5…
Quote: Yeah count me in for sure. I was just doing research on adding one of these to my cl600 when I stumbled on this thread
folks…

of the 5 who said they were definitely in for the Quaife, only 3 of us have gotten in touch with James at Birds…

1.JustTxn. CHECKED IN
2.bzracer73. CHECKED IN
3.newb600
4.Eemelicdi. CHECKED IN
5.HubTraum

newb600 and Hubtraum. Birds is waiting on the both of you to reach out using the contact page

we have been requested to type "QDF29B Group Production" on their contact form's Comment Box, which is at the bottom (www.birdsauto.com/contact).

Once you do this, you'll be individually contacted with an invoice to be paid. I used credit card last time. They are producing a run of ten differentials as a result of our 5 orders, so if there are users lurking, you can probably get away with messaging them in the same manner as above.

Please post once you do this, so we can keep tabs on progress.

we need the remaining 2 interested people to reach out to move to the next step…

regards,

bzracer73

newb600… we are still trying to “count you in for sure”

we need you to reach out to birds auto if you’re still seriously wanting one of these quaife units, if not please let us know so we can remove your name and move on…

if interested in moving forward with our group buy please click the link below and contact birds auto

we cannot move forward until we have the 5 minimum interested parties. We’re currently at four…You would make 5…please let us know either way…

we have been requested to type "QDF29B Group Production" on their contact form's Comment Box, which is at the bottom (www.birdsauto.com/contact)

thanks,

bzracer73

and if anybody else wants in… now, is the time… speak up or forever hold your peace…

So, was LSD equipped in some models and an option in others? I believe the SL65 cars got it standard, but what about CL55/65, S55/65 and even SL55?

From what I remember, some SL65's had them, and that was it... No w215's came with them factory, and it was not an option. Bizarre considering the power available, but Mercedes probably didn't assume the first or second owners of these cars to be interested in powersliding.

Check your E-Mail inbox over the next few days! You will likely be asked what form of payment you prefer (wire or credit card), then sent an invoice to be paid. I went with credit card because I find wiring money annoying, especially internationally.

HubTraum c’mon buddy…. What’s the dealio?
Quote: Checked with Hubtraum, he has also gotten in touch with Bird's.
if you can no longer participate in the group by please extend us the courtesy of letting us know instead of leaving us hang here in the wind… You’re the last one that needs to pay so we can get this order sent in to quaife….

Don’t Newb600 us…

A simple heads up one way or the other would be appreciated…

thanks,

I didn‘t ghost you I got in touch with birds - but didn‘t have a minute for wiring the money, yet.

Construction sites, planning, coordinating etc. consumes time and nerves - I hope you forgive me.

Didn‘t go to any boards of interest the last two weeks (m5 board and mbworld)…

I‘m sorry for the delay - but it will happen 👍🏻

I‘ll try to find a moment today for the payment.

Best regards
