Cool w215 Quaife (QDF29B) LSD new production run @ 5 units of demand

Hey y'all,

Looks like Birds Garage/Quaife will make a new production run of ATB/ LSD rear differentials for most w215 cars if we can get 5 orders together. These diffs also seem to fit some other cars, but I'll contact Bird's to get more specificity.

The big win with this differential, is it locks both wheels at the same rotational speed when accelerating hard. No more engine power cuts or that weird side to side movement these cars do under wheelspin/ heavy accel from slow speeds.

Really wakes these cars up, and makes them hilarious to drive. You accelerate significantly harder with less wheelspin, though the cl55 can still very easily roast tires. It also eliminates like 90% of the flashing traction lights, and almost all of your "engine cutting power" BS, since the rear tires stay spinning at the same RPM, and don't freak out the ECU. These cars powerslide very well btw

Anybody interested? If the cost is like the last one I bought for my cl55, I think it'll be $1600-1800, purchase, tax, shipping, and import duties included. It's pretty simple. You pay via check or card, DHL shows up at your house with the diff, and makes you pay the import duty (something like 2-5% for differentials iirc) before handing you the differential.

I'll crosspost this to boards I find are also compatible with this diff in the coming week.

I'm not sure what getting this rolling entails, but it's likely submitting payment before production starts. I'll email Bird's and get some clarification.

**Thank you bzracer73 for learning this tidbit from Bird's Garage!

Hi Niko,

It should be OK for you to join, especially considering Quaife is physically (UK) closer to you than us, lol.

Send me your email address, so I have it when we hit 5 people. Once that occurs, I'll probably just email Birds Garage (the distributor for Quaife) and CC everybody that has signed up.

Just email your vin-number to quaife/birds garage. They will tell you what LSD fits to your car.

Their differential fits the following…. I can only assume the Quaife would as well… though I would double check with birds…Fittment:
  • 215 - CL 600
  • 215 - CL 55 AMG
  • 215 - CL 55 AMG Kompressor
  • 215 - CL 65 AMG
  • 220 - S 55 AMG
  • 220 - S 55 AMG Kompressor
  • 220 - S 600
  • 220 - S 65 AMG
  • 230 - SL 600
  • 230 - SL 65 AMG (up to MY 2006)
  • Maybach 57 / 62 (up to MY 2006)

come on peeps we only need one more person to come onboard…. Let’s get this limited run done!!! if you ever wanted one… now is the time!!!

as soon as we get 5, we’ve got to pre-pay at Birds garage, but that’s to be expected… this most likely will never happen again… I spoke with the people at Quaife, Birds is the only company they’ll make these for….

if you know anyone that ever wanted one and they haven’t seen this thread, please forward to them…

I'll draft up an email to Birds, and CC everyone whose emails I have. If I don't have your email, send it to me! If you're not able to because your account is new, post it in the thread and I'll get an email copy of the post (assuming it's the first post after mine), then edit the post.

I'm sick today, so I'll plan on emailing them by Saturday at the latest!

@JustTXn

get well soon 👍🏻

When you contact them - could you ask if there‘s a chance to get a additional QDF27N (for a BMW E63 M6) for a „good“ price? Die
