Does a 2005-06 CL65 have Limited Slip Diff or not?
I'm thinking not since the rear wheel slips alot for all that torque

How about the CL55?

Any recommendations for or against in getting a LSD for it if not?

Nope, the CL65 does not come with a LSD (nor does the CL55). The only 65 that comes standard with an LSD is the SL65.

It kind of depends on why you want the LSD. If you take the CL65 to the drag strip and run on regular street tires, yes the LSD will help. If you take the CL65 to the drag strip and run a drag radial, the LSD isn't going to make much of a difference (if you properly heat the DRs). It would have been nice for AMg to install a LSD at the factory, but I am not sure it is worth the additional expense. It isn't like you are going to be throwing a 4,650lbs CL65 around a road course and want the car putting the power down more efficiently in the corners...

I have a Cl65 and have also considered the LSD . I really feel alot is lost anywhere under 40-50 mph on the street due to wheel spin. I'd like to think a lot of this would be eliminated as well as share the torque to both wheels, compared to an unlucky wheel/axle getting hit with it all. Even under track applications, it may not increase time if drag radials are hot and there isn't wheel spin, but it should reduce drivetrain stress or failure. Yes/No? Any suggestions? I will be the first to say this is all just logical thinking and not based on experience. any feedback would be much appriciated, I don't want to waste my time just "spinning my wheel/s".

I took the car out on track (Too wet for slicks on my trakcar ) and I was very impressed how well it handled even in the rain the EPS light hardly ever came on in ABC sport mode. I thought all that understeer came from LSD as there was so much rear grip for puny tires.

OT, but I also really liked how it hangs on the the gears, even when not accellerating and no shifting in the corners to upset the balance..

An LSD in my GT3 and it made a big difference.

I am 100% sure about the CL65 not having an LSD. I always had a hard time getting both tires to spin during burnouts at that drag strip in my CL65. I think MB/AMG didn't think many CL65 drivers would actually use a CL65 in a sporting fashion and left the differential open and made the ESP "act" as a limited slip system.

Tom is correct. But one thing I will say is that there should be no excuse about the "added expense" of a LSD given that it was a $180,000 car new.

Even with the dealer demo SL65 I bought (with a LSD as Tom says), there was no chance of any of the power going down if it were in the least bit damp. That yellow flashing light was a constant eyesore but, handling aside, the 65s remain some of the most immense cars on the road. The W216 65 being my particular favorite.

I've never seen any Mercedes on track except me and only because there was a monsoon rain. I think the car justifies a real LSD, but not many owners would care I suspect.

Qualfie makes a LSD conversion kit for MB. I know that have it for the CLS & E 55s. Check them out if it available for the CL 65.

From what I understand the CL65 and S65 share the same open rear (different from the other AMGs and MBs). I've heard Qualfie does not have a LSD for this car at this time. My big question is: With a LSD, should one expect a considerable difference in traction from a dig on a CL65 with a tune or will the 800+ ft/lbs of torque will just break the tires loose regardless. It would be great to have traction from even 25-30 mph to feel how hard the car could pull from a slower speed. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining of too much power, I just wish the high end power could be put to more use at lower speeds from better traction.

I think there is also wavetrac LSD... not sure if they have it for the CL however.

If the Qualfie LSD is like the automatic locker(Powertrax) I have in my 4x4 which is not the traditional electric or air locker but a traction automatic lock (gives traction power to the non slipping wheel), then that's the one that might work to prevent the excessive slipping.
However, reading up on the wavetrac, it sure seems to give what we want as for as hook up between 20-50mph going straight..

Specs on the OS Giken are just what is needed, it's a bit more expensive.

Do the CL65 and CL55 have the same diff? (part number wise)

THe CL55 and CL65 have different rears I am almost certain. The v-12 cars have larger ring gears. I used a Kleemann diff in my S600 and it worked great at both the drag strip and road course. My S65 is open diff as well. May be time to upgrade that in the future.

I'd love to rock an LSD, but I haven't been able to find anyone who makes them. IIRC even quaife doesn't. At least, I think I talked to them as well.

Anyone other then OS Giken / RENNtech make a LSD for the 2005 CL65. It is a long story, but my differential has been taken out by my tech and I was assured that a Quaife model would fit my car. Well guess what, it didn't!!! I am sooooo F***** PISSED!!! Love RENNtech, agree they are top notch, but the cost on their LSD is higher then I am willing to pay. Anyone know how much the Kleemann cost by chance?

I had a Kleemann limited slip differential in my 2003 S600. The unit is incredibly simple and is not that expensive...in the $1500 range. You have to send your center portion of the rear for them to install so some of the expense is the shipping costs. Just drop the axles from the rear and unbolt the center from the car and ship. No need to open up the rear as they do this for you. Once it is back just bolt it back in and you are ready to go. Make sure to add lube as they ship it dry.

Yes, the only 65 car with lsd is the sl65 and it does make a huge difference at low speed acceleration and putting the power to the ground. For example at say 20-30 mph if you floor it the cl will brake very aggressively the spinning wheel which will result in a lot of stability control intervention. The same feat on the sl65 results in 100 yards of black strips and wagging tail with little to no intervention from the stability control...

In my mind the lsd is an excellent addition to the overweight cl65...

At almost 3 times the price its would be nice to see Renntech offer a reasonable group buy for their unit. I'm sure there would be more interest. Does anyone else other than their "test car" (SGC's CL65) have the OS. Giken in it? I never ran across anyone on here talking about their personal experience with it. Many say its a nice product and the video shows it certainly works, but has anyone been willing to cough up $5,000.00 for it? Who knows maybe somebody would like to "pay it forward" with one and I can get lucky???? Well I guess thats wishful thinking!!
