Newest Project: FULL 3.5" intake, including Y pipe and front mount filters
DEPENDING ON OPTIONS, you CAN build this system for as little as $235!!!!
Current pricing for competing products?
1) Needswings system: $850.
2) Fabtech: $650 (and it's "ONLY" a 3" system.)
I went all out, and used the "ram air" frontal filtering cone filters, and full heat wrap.
The cost? A mere $300, and you get a true 3.5" system, all the way from the filters, to the throttle body..
*I'm not selling these, just showing YOU how to make them. *
This system flows more air, and gets less heat soak, is hundreds of dollars less expensive then any other similar competing product, draws air from a cooler location, and by virtue of passing more air through the system allows that air to heat up less, since the heat would have to transfer itself to more volume of air in the same amount of time. But the fabtech and needswings systems look cool in their own right.
Here we have the same shot as above, but additionally wrapped with the header wrap. (that stuff is annoying to apply)

Here's the plan:
FULL 3.5" tubing, and filters mounting right at the front. The filters will have heat shields to combat the rising engine heat, and also be the "cutout" cone filters, so the air coming in from the sides of the radiator will ram air effect right into the filter "nozzles"
I'll also be wrapping the pipes with a heat wrap good to 1000 degrees, and on top of the heat shields (or underneath it I should say) using adhesive backed heat "blanket".
Here's the shopping list..

Finally, if you dont want to go all out, and you DO wish to retain semi-stock looks, you can always just replace your front intake tubes while leaving the filters and OEM airbox.

Once I get it all fitted to my satisfaction, I may substitute in these air filters:
Wrap them with the heat shield and wrap material too.
Then, I'll attach them to the front using these scoops:

I doubt it. IT"s just for the looks and SOUND.
So if it makes any extra power, great. But I'm not worried about it.
I'll pick up one of those cheap obd2 readers and check and compare IAT's.. That's what's most important to me. After testing it out just now, boy am I impressed.

Looks good. Not sure once underhood temps go up you will be making more power since you will be sucking hot air especially if the fan is on, but nice work. A am sure you get more intake noise at wot.
Now wrap those tubes to guard against heat soak.

I will be testing out the OEM and my different variations, and recording IAT's to determine the true effect and temperatures.
Again I just wanted to try to fab up something, and now that I see it works (will upload a video soon of it in "action")
I will be removing the filters, installing these tube style filters and wrapping EVERYTHING including the filter housings with the heat shield, and the header wrap:

and connecting them up to the front air intake openings on the sides of the radiator.
Before spending another $200, I wanted to make sure this system would work, seal against the throttle body etc.. And it does..

Thanks blkvip, it may add HP but the sound is the real gain.. It' really really nice to listen to this motor boosting at full throttle!

Upon further inspection they are looking okay.. I'll most likely do them and the valve cover gaskets in the future anyways..

Untill I change the filters out and connect the fronts directly to the port in the side there...

Not the super charger covers, the small covers on top to the valve covers (different sizes on left and right) are oil purge tank covers. Those are the ones I was referring to.
Next time your at the dealer, pick up a new window washer tank cap. They are $2-$3.
