1/4 mile runs in the CL65 today....

I finally hit the track in the CL65 and it performed as expected.

Anyway, the car ran 11.67, 11.51, and 11.58. The first run was slower from high air temps. The third isn't a 11.4 because I choked.

Hopefully with a tune the car will run some 11.0's. I was in the right lane on all the slips.

And that was stock other than rear tires/wheels right? Any idea what the DA was or temperature?

It looks like my first trip to the track is going to be on street tires, but with a couple mods already traction is going to be a challenge. We're you stalling it up on the launch or leaving off of idle?

Car is bone stock except for the 265/40-18 MT ET Streets. All runs in Dyno mode.

- Run 1, idle lauch with 19 psi in the rear tires
- Run 2, around 1,100 launch and 18 psi in the rear tires
- Run 3, around 1,100 launch and 18 psi in the rear tires

I just confirmed the DA for the 11.51 run was 531'. Really no point in checking the others.

I hope that's just tire rubber and that it also wasn't slinging rocks up picked up sticking to the tires in the pit/prep area.

I'm sure there were rocks too, but it's just a car.

0-60 time and American style 1/4th mile drag racing significantly understate the performance ability of CL65s due to weight to rear tire footprint and weight distribution.

As a CL65 isn't going to do wheelies on 10.5 street tires, I suspect adding some weigh at the very rear (such as weights under the rear bumper cover) while any possible weight lightening forward (few options there) would increase 0-60 and quarter mile time with enhanced traction at launch. Since the car can not possibly use all its torque at launch, it is possible putting some weigh all the way back could allow faster launching, with plenty of torque and HP down the track.

Where a CL65 proves its stuff is in 1 kilometer straight line racing Russia style. However, the value of CL65s is realized when already rolling such in passing, freeway merging and sliding into small openings in the fast lane from the slow lane.

Fortunately they tiny rock ticks don't jump out at you on a light colored car. They are murder on a dark colored one.

Oh, and congrats on your consistency between the 3 runs.

Thanks. Unfortunately the car had a few decent sized chips when I bought it, so a few extra new ones will fit right in.

As for the color, that's why I buy light colored cars. I can't imagine owning a black CL. Way too much work to keep clean for me. My wife just had to have a black VW CC, and I've not seen it look really clean but maybe 5 times in the past 6 months. Every imperfection is cleary visible.

unlikey this will have any effect as the abc suspension is going to do its best to compensate for the weight shift. a normal mechanical suspension would yield the desired results you speak of but the abc is constantly calculating the best amount of rebound and compression and adding weight would have zero effect

Great times for a stock car. We're you logging the car during the run? If yes what boost were you seeing

Thanks and I hope so. I removed the TCU and ECU today, and hopefully Steve (320 Dreamer) will be able to deliver them to BIP (Buckhead Imports) tomorrow for a little tune action.

Thanks. I was logging, but I was taking the readings from the OBD.
I've been lazy and I've still not gotten around to installing the ZT2, boost sensor, or wideband.

Max boost was 32.2, but I suppose that was without any deduction for atmospheric pressure. That seems low to me.

The 32.2 is without a deduction for atmospheric pressure, as stated. That's why I said it seemed low.

32.2 - 14.7 = 17.5 PSI

This couldn't be accurate., as it wouldn't trap 120 with only 17.5psi. I'll be installing all the datalogging bells and whistles soon to accurately datalog the beast. I just haven't gotten around to it.

Thanks. Yes, 89K for a few another week or so and I'll be at 90K. I'm sure the DA wasn't doing you any favors though when you ran. I've heard occasionally a 1K DA happens in Vegas, but it's few and far between.

Thanks. What do you think adding ECU and TCU tunes will do under similar conditions?

Some tunes are more aggressive than others but I'd say 11.1x-11.2x +/- 125mph. I ran a few 11.1x with similar 60 ft times launching around 1200 RPMs. If you are willing to launch closer to 2500 RPMs you may see something closer to high 10s or 11.0x. Either way still pretty impressive for a stocker.

If you add a rear 5 gallon reservoir with ice, 100 oct or 109 tune w/ TCU I see this car hitting 10's easy on that run.

+1. With the above and the addition of a custom cai and exhaust this thing should fly
