Information I've gathered regarding Jailbreak Tuning/HG Motorsports ECU Tune
1. It's a legitimate crack, and he's the first and only tuner to have it cracked state side. Yes I know GAD Motors and Poseidon have it cracked overseas, but if you want to pay close to $4K for a tune, be my guest.
2. The dyno that you see is from the initial ECU crack with some simple parameter changes. Note that the power really jumps in the higher ends and maintains, plus it maintains AFR around 11.5, so it's very safe.
3. This crack will likely be able to finally put an end to the CEL problems that plague anybody with a down pipe.
4. The tune also apparently increases the efficiency of cooling and makes the car more effective at preventing heatsoak. They ran the car 3 times back to back with practically the same dyno results.
5. There appears to be a possibility of tweaking launch control and modifying what RPM the car will launch at.
He's currently working on perfecting the tune for our cars stock. I assume he's also working on maps for intake/downpipe, etc. Pricing I'm not sure on, but I've been told it's going to be pretty competitive against the piggyback ECUs.
Frankly if it's within range of a piggyback box, that's good enough for me. I just want an actual tune for my car. Never been a fan of piggybacks. Too many problems. I'm going to talk with him and HG as well to discuss perhaps trying all their parts out as a package so I can give the forum some detailed insight and reviews on the goods.
Stay tuned!
The first question we get asked is will this affect my warranty? So for customers who don't want their ecu opened then we will still have our option!
I know the M4 guys are having those problems majorly. I've personally felt more comfortable with an actual tune and for warranty issues, I've never had one dealer complain about a tune I've had on any of my cars. But of course, that's my experience.
Not a fan of other piggy back ECU tunes been there done that.
