RENNtech ECU

2500 bucks for a plug and play. RENNtech is suppose to be one of the top Mercedes tuners correct me if i'm wrong. Pretty nice HP gains though.

I have a Eurocharged tune for my C63 and love it. I hear good things about OE tuning as well. When either develop a CLA45 tune I would expect it to cost considerably less than the Renntech tune.

Thanks bro!, I wonder if this RENNtech is similar to the Cobb Accessport where you can swap it in and out and it would be undetectable to the dealership.

I also agree that those two tuners would cost less but i think Renntech has been around longer & I've heard some dealers recommend them. Carlsson I think was the first to advertise their tune and they are well known also.

Eurocharged will blow renntech tune out of the water haha. Once eurocharged has done the tune I will buy it the next day. I can't wait to see what the gains are going to be

OETuning is going to sponsor my CLA and use it to prototype their tune, so I'm good.

I may consider Weistec as well, but I'm not sure.

With the C63 you can but you have to buy the programmer plus the tune. I hope something similar will be out for the CLA45. However I never switched mine back to stock regardless if I'm taking it in for service or not. My dealer has never said a word and I have the programmer stored in the cargo net next to the passenger front seat. You'd have to have a major blow out in which the service department would have to link the issue to the tune for MB to deny warranty.

OE kicks Eurocharged's bottom in the M156 tunes.

I ran Renntech on the M157 in my cls63 for 2 years with no problems. There is a pretty decent # of Mercedes dealers that sell and install/serivce Renntech products so if you are lucky enough to live close to one of those dealers you won't need to pull the tune for fear of losing dealer warranty service. That is why Renntech can charge the extra $$$ -- but in my mind it was worth the piece of mind. When it came time to sell my cls63 I had several buyers who said they would only consider a tuned car if it was a Renntech tune. My 63 cents anyhow.

I have an OE tune in my C and couldn't be happier, was great when stock and even better with headers. That said I'd expect OE, Eurocharged, and Weistec to have great tunes out shortly and for considerably less cost than Renntech.

It looks like my Mercedes dealer is also a RENNtech dealer. Might be worth the extra penny if I am able to keep the factory warranty.

Do people REALLY trust these ECU programmers?? This seems so hoakie to me, $2500 to 're-program your ECU,' something doesnt make sense??

Yes the CEO of AMG said the CLA 45 is capable of doing more, but really, it is already running 26.1 psi of boost out of 2 litres! I am an Engineer so I have to be logical, if you increase boost (which is already insanely high), you risk damaging your internals. The CLA has forged pistons and crankshaft, but it can only take so much heat and pressure. You are going to greatly increase engine wear....AMG = $$ parts.

Additionally, the transmission; Mercedes have said the DCT in the CLA 45 cannot take the same torque as the DCT in SLS AMG (makes sense).

I am just really weary of this....comments appreciated

An important point to call out on the bottom of the page:

"Note: Due to the ability of the end user to set performance levels, this product is offered with no warranty by RENNtech and RENNtech assumes no liability for incorrectly adjusted performance levels by the customer."

I've had 4 cars tuned...07 BMW 335, 09 Audi TTS, 2010 Audi S4 and now my 2012 C63. I haven't had an issue with any of them. None of the dealers where I had my cars serviced at seem to care either. I also don't keep my cars longer than 2 years so I can't speak to long term reliability There is definitely some risk involved but I think it's minimal.

I shot my salesman an email about the RENNtech tune and this is what he said,

"Nice, I’ve been waiting for Renntech to come out with a tune. That looks like some serious power gains. We are an authorized dealer and can perform the ECU tune. Now here is the official word when it comes to the factory warranty.
Performing a Renntech ECU tune will not void your factory warranty. However, if the engine or drive train suffer a failure that can be attributed by Mercedes to the non-factory levels of engine power then that failure may not be covered. So if you bend a rod or blow a differential there is the potential that if the repair comes across the desk of a cranky German at headquarters, and he is able to find out that the ECU was tuned, it could be denied. Also, according to a PDF from the Renntech website there is no warranty from Renntech either:
Note: Due to the ability of the end user to set performance levels, this product is offered with no
warranty by RENNtech and RENNtech assumes no liability for incorrectly adjusted performance levels
by the customer.
So all in all this tune looks awesome, but does come with a bit of uncertainty"

So we really need to find out about the limits of this engine and tranny. I assume RENNtech would know this as they saw the engine parameters while doing the tune. This engine can be alot stronger for all we know.

ECU tuning is like overclocking your computer. Engines might have 20-25% of headroom depends on manufacture, they leave that headroom because they need to ensure the engine will last 300k + miles. A simple ECU might put more stress on the parts and shorten the life of the engine. If a normal stock engine can run 300k miles, reduce it by 25% and you still get 220k miles out of it. I have only put 40k miles at the most on each of the car I own, therefore, I wouldn't think of any of the long term issues when tuning a car. Just my 2 cents.

Wow this sounds very RISKY! No one wants to assume any liability (RennTech or Mercedes)….basically you assume all risks and costs! Yikes!!! I think I would personally wait until my warranty wears out before doing it. My dad has a 2011 E350, the regular automatic transmission needed replacing after 3 years (under warranty), was $10,000 at Mercedes cost! Now you take the fancy DCT tranny, one can only imagine replacement cost!

There is an authorized dealer here in Calgary that installs and services RennTech (TunerWorks). I got a quote today, is $2600 CDN to install the ECU, seems pricey. The ECU 'reprogramming' is kind of a joke IMO….guys charge $2600 and then kick you out the door

The fact of the matter is that most vehicles with an ECU tune down blow up, just remember the word "most"

I used to think the same way, but only keep my cars 2-3 years which ment they were ways under warrenty and I never did anything aside from cosmetic. I didn't care because the gains on the motors back then weren't that great but with big gains available on the 63 motors both n/a and turbo stock is just not an option. If the gains to the 45 are worth the cost my suggestion is to build a good relationship with your dealer and have fun modding

Our tune is out and running.

It is plug and play like the rest and makes some good gains. We are not pushing the platform yet and staying very conservative. Our CLA is on order still

yup, most people who are doing the tune have a plug and play module that interfaces with the car. Most are using the same technology but have their own flavor of software on it.

Seems to be the common experience.

LOL at 63 cents! Actually Renntech tuning DOES void your warranty according to MBUSA. (check the amg private lounge forums) It's a common misconception as yes some dealers offer the services, but will fix the repairs on their own dime if anything goes wrong without reporting to mb.

Has anyone tried DTE chiptuning, they have a tune for the CLA 45 as well. +45hp and 68Nm. They are based in Europe and seem professional.
