A bucket on wheels
if this is gonna be your daily driver i think your making a BIG mistake!!! i was looking at a few of them a couple months ago and the damn thing is such insanely small. Im about 5 foot 9/10 and weigh 130lb's and this thing was the hardest thing to get in and out of. You might as well remove the sound system because its harder to use the radio then most things. They are gonna refresh the elise with a newer model soon with a wider and longer body with more amenaties inside. Yes it will weight more but the current one will be outdated. They arn't selling nearly as well they expected due to the simple practicality of it all. If this is gonna be a track car then there is no better track car out there otherwise stick with the c32 or get something similar(m3, c55, s4...)

Go for it, that's a remarkable achievement of life for one to decide a Elise. I am sure you will take care the 'dsy2day' driving issues.

c32 infatuation,
I was wondering what kind of wheels you have on your car. They look good, and I was looking for a set of wheels that will clear the front calipers.

thanks,
Jon

The rims are ADR M-Sports but they do not clear the caliper. There is a spacer and the wheels sticks out just alittle, if you lower the car and get an allignment however, you can barely notice.

I'd love to buy another AMG but the fact is that I am tired of getting beat up on the resale. I found an Elise in Newport Beach that I'm going to look at today. I'll take some pictures to post and you guys can tell me what you think

If you have room for two cars I would keep the C32 for ten more years and buy a dedicated track car. I assume you are looking to track a car since you are interested in an Elise. For the difference you will pay for the Elise you could buy a late 80's early 90's honda civic(track prepped) that will be just as light and quick as the Elise.

The Elise will be my only car, but seeing as though I am in college for another year and a half I rarely drive and when I do, comfort isn't that big of an issue for me. I track my C32 usually once or twice a month and it gets too loose around the turns and I'm just looking for the best handling car I can find. I have been considering the Elise, a 2001 911 Carerra 4S, or an already modded S2K. Why do you guys think?

why ask man??? lol a 2001 911 c4s!!!!!!!
trust me once you sit in the elise you will realise what a mistake your making. There is about a foot of space from the door to the seat you must climb over!!! then again it IS a track car so its pretty understandable.

Once you've mastered getting into and out of a Lotus Elise, it's not bad. I don't know if I would make mine a daily driver or not, but I didn't get the Sport Suspension and I got the Touring Package, so it's actually pretty comfortable for long drives. (I drove 11 hours straight without any aches/pains and I'm 5'10" and 250 pounds.)

Personally, if you're still in college, I'd keep the C32. The Elise is an amazing car and I love every minute behind the wheel of mine. But it's also VERY fragile. A few forum members on EliseTalk had minor incidents. One person backed into the front of the Elise at 2.5 miles per hour and did $8,800 in damage. Another had a jerk make a U-Turn in front of him while travelling 30 mph and incurred almost $16,000 in damage.

If you're still intent on buying an Elise, I have a Bordeaux Red Pearl Elise (Biscuit interior, touring package, starshield) coming into Newport European sometime this month. I bought another car but this car is still on its way. It's at the old MSRP (Lotus raised MSRP $2000 in January) but NE wants $2,500 additional which I paid as a deposit. If you're interested, let me know since it'll be available as early as (possibly) this coming week.

Bob

the 6 feet 1 guy on autoweek said the elise was better suited for a 5 feet 6 person

I decided the 911 was for me after crawling out of the lotus twice. I sold the car to a guy in nor-cal yesterday and he's picking it up at the end of next week. My next car will probably be an E55... as soon as the prices go down. I sold the car w/ the wheels, but the ADR M-Sports are pretty cheap new on wheelmax.com, just make sure you get some good tires because they all come with Kuhmo Ecstas which in my opinion suck.
