I haven’t heard that clicking at all but I’ve only had the car for 400 miles. Almost sounds like a solenoid that is turning off and on.

OP is suspecting the rear wheel steering system.

You have to open the window to hear it , inside with closed windows you won`t hear it . Also easiest to hear when you hold your break firmly , and press gas pedal a bit.

My service manage contacted me last week and mentioned that they think it has to do with some lubrication and bolts in the hub. Im pretty sure they are wrong but they will figure it out, its a new car so im not bothered. I do miss driving it though.

Interesting, certainly first model year issues for sure hopefully they figure it out, the W206 when it first came out had a clunking noise https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ing-noise.html

Hmm. I’ve tried everything said here and I don’t get the noise. I have nearly 500 miles. Maybe it will become apparent eventually.

Hey @flatsick , thanks for posting . My service said that it is safe to drive , and they have asked Mercedes Benz for instructions . I called them yesterday , so far no anwser. I`m not scared to drive it since I have 4 years warranty but it would be good if they fix it .

Please let me know if it helped in your case. And if so , can you get some details what they did ?

Issue Seems to have been fixed

hi all,

I’ve been driving my vehicle and appears the issue has been fixed for me. I’m still waiting on my official paperwork but I was told they replaced the wheel bearings. I hope this helps all dealing with this I.

Sounds like a bearing , axel or maybe a diffirential mechanizm . It goes to MB service on Thursday , I hope they can find an issue instead saying thats normal.

So all the CLE 53 have a bad batch of wheel bearings? Hmmm, but glad they found out the issue, hopefully potentially a recall?

Can’t be all CLEs as mine doesn’t make this mysterious noise. Maybe a batch of them?

I see, hopefully forum members will post their build dates and compare that way.

That is good news, seems like MB already figured out the issue. So that means it only affects press/testing vehicles and earlier builds.

Day #2 , issue seems to be resolved.

Hi All,

I confirmed with my service technician at Keyes Mercedes in Van Nuys California today. He says both rear wheel bearings were replaced. He doesn’t think they were cracked, he thinks there was probably excessive clearance in the bearings that may have been causing the noise. I hope this helps all!

That is good news, good job of your dealership of finding the root cause so quickly and fixing it.

Day 3 Unfortunately the clicking has returned!

Hi All,

Unfortunately the clicking has returned today. My service technician says the foreman will have to reach out to Mercedes to see if there’s a manufacturing issue they may know about.

UGH! Is it possible there is another bad wheel bearing, maybe the other wheel now, or the front?

They replaced both in the rear and that’s where the clicking seems to be coming from again. Unfortunately the repair only lasted two days, I’ll keep posting as I find out more.
