Cargo capacity comparison between CLE450 and CLE53

Cargo capacity comparison between CLE450 and CLE53
MBUSA indicates cargo capacity of 11.2 cu ft for the CLE300 and CLE450. The CLE53 specs state the cargo capacity is 14.5 cu ft. Where is the extra 3.3 cubic feet in the CLE53?

Could it be that they are counting the space when the rear seats are folded down?

The CLE 53 has wider rear and stance but that shouldn't affect cargo though.

I doubt that. With seats folded down I would think cargo capacity would be at least double.

My 2019 C43 cargo space is listed at 10.5 cu.ft. and, as you stated, the CLE53 is listed at 14.8 cu.ft. Now, based on my golf clubs fitting in the trunk, there's almost no difference! Still a tight fit but about 1" more on the diagonal. I did look and, because of the fat tires, I think that the trunk is tubbed too. I haven't measured it, but I'll bet that there's more width between the wheel tubs in the 450 trunk.

There's also the question about "Useable volume". I wonder if the 3.3 cu.ft. are somehow distributed in nooks and crannies.

Is it possible that the compartment below the trunk floor is larger on the CLE53 than it is on the CLE300/450?

For my Taycan Cross Turismo, Porsche calculated the cargo capacity after including the volume of the under cargo floor storage compartment. Cars with the upgraded entertainment systems, which included a sub-woofer in the lower compartment, showed a cargo capacity of about 2 cu ft less in the specifications. I would not be surprised if MB included the door compartment capacity to maximize the number.

Huh, I did not know that. I wouldn't be surprised either. But I have no way of measuring trunk volume so ...
